Right website?

Hi I don't know if my post is really going to make sense to many people here. But it's about my diabetes. The diabetes sites weren't really helpful if a I can say. But anyway...I was yikes a long time along ago about insulin. I take bolus n basal. I was it's not necessary to eat to take insulin. I'm type one so I'd would be OK not to take any insulin n skip meals if I wanted to? Hope my question makes sense!

Hi Hidden ,

When you’re using any type of insulin ( long or short acting), the person always has to eat a snack and/or meal on a regular schedule. This keeps a person from having severe hypoglycemic incidents during the day/evening/night hours. For me personally, I have bedtime snacks every night and they are 30 grams of protein and 24-25 grams of carbs. in bars. I sometimes have a Greek yogurt with the bar depending on the blood sugar results at 9:30 pm. I hope this helps!😀👍

That's just the reply I wanted. That means I have been doing it right all this time.

How many carbs. do you have each day/evening/night? I ask because not everyone is the same— like Diabetes.

Sometimes I don't eat lunch Ive been having an omelette which has no carbs. Ever supper Is different of course - with higher carbs for example fried chicken with chips or waffles or Indian food with pitta bread. Breakfast is tea n toast so every meal is different carby. Except breakfast however high it is I always take 3 units of humalog

Each time you have a different type of food, you have to add up the carbs. and do the insulin shots based on the total amount of carbs. in the meal so you don’t have any lows unexpectedly.

Because I also have coeliac disease my meals are more carby

That’s okay. I’m on a gluten free diet along with a low carb high protein diet. You can always adjust for the gluten free version foods and their amount of carbs.😀

So if I don't eat still have to take insulin? That's what the others said where I got confused

Please call your Endocrinologist and ask him/her. They have you on certain amounts of insulin and what time. You can decrease the amounts you take when you don’t feel well and/or don’t eat the normal amount of food.

I don't need to see them because I'm doing it way they told me. Insulin according to ur carbs and have a snack before bed

Yes, but you need to talk to them if you don’t want to eat something. The way I do my insulin shots when sick is, I lower the dose or don’t take the fast acting insulin so I don’t go low.

Hi

Have you looked on the low carb high fat forum on this website (LCHF).

This may help as there are many people with diabetes and insulin issues on this forum.

I have adapted this way of eating as I can't tolerate gluten, plus I have other medical issues, Hashimoto's, underactive thyroid and High Cortisol levels.

Best Wishes
