What is your diets carbon footprint, BBC calculator. 🌽 🌢

Good morning everyone,

Here's a how to calculate the carbon footprint of the foods that you eat:

bbc.co.uk/news/science-envi...

I have to be honest in that statistics are a minefield in my opinion as I come from a scientific back ground and I focus on facts and a statistic that makes me laugh is, if someone buys a lottery ticket on Monday for the following Saturday they have a bigger chance of dying before the draw than winning the lottery...the fact is if you didn't buy a ticket you can't win and you're not more likely to die because you have bought one...

I also think that some of the facts in this article compare beef bred in an area that just been deforested has up to 8X the carbon footprint of beef bred in natural pastures? now what is a natural pasture, it's one that once supported forests so was deforested a long time ago.

If you want a statistic to help our health and global warming drink only tap water no plastic bottles no heat for making a cuppa no sugary soft drinks no alcohol and look at the money saved there 😱...Me I like a cuppa so will happily pay the carbon footprint price for it...πŸ˜‚

And for those just embarking on a vegan diet here's a link to VFL, HU's vegan forum whose admin are friends of ours:

Have a great weekend folks and you are what you eat and thats a fact...

Interesting to compare dairy milk 0.6 with almond milk at 0.1. So despite all that water that is used in California to grow almonds, despite the air-miles shipping it across the globe it still comes out almost 6 times better than your local cows milk!

Hi Andy, I agree on Breakfast tv was about veganism this morning and apparently there's the same amount of protein in a tin of chickpeas as a free range chicken costing Β£10.

They made the most amazing looking vegan scrambled eggs this morning on breakfast tv using 2 types of tofu. And thats when they said about the carbon footprint calculator.

I think that it's great they're making us think more about what we eat and the consequences.

Hi Hidden

That is a lovely arrangement of fresh fruits and vegetables. I will look forward to reading the article later - as I feel sure it will be interesting.
