I do like this time of year as I think itโs really interesting that deciduous trees change to such vibrant colours before they fall.
If we have drier nights the leaves get more sugar and go red but if itโs colder they go yellow.
So hereโs a link from the Woodland Trust on why leaves change colour and why they fall off (abscission) this is really interesting in my opinion as they fall off so neatly and elegantly.
Last year I was driving through the forest and the wind picked up and it was like a snowstorm and the cars were making the leaves turbulent it was surreal and stunning to witness.
That article about the leaves changing colour is really interesting. The green (cholorophyl), yellow (carotenes) and reds and pinks (anthocyanins), and I'd not realised about the hormone (Auxin), plus the interactions with the weather conditions.
I love the beaty of Autumn and especially love the copper, gold and reddy colours.
