Who makes up headway? Are you physicians, therapists, brain injured, family/carers of brain injured, etc?
Who are headway?: Who makes up headway? Are you... - Headway
Who are headway?
for me they are life savers and without them I wouldn't be where i am now
i don't know what their actual qualifications are, but they are heroes to me
Hi AnthonyM,
Thank you for your question.
On HealthUnlocked there are a number of us who post under the 'Headway' username, and we all have experience on the national Headway helpline. We are staffed by nurses, occupational therapists and other staff with extensive training in the field of brain injury. We also have people from a number of relevant personal and professional backgrounds within our organisation, who we can draw on if necessary.
Hopefully this puts us in a good position to contribute to the forum and provide some good practical guidance where necessary. We know we can't aim to replace the personal insight and experience of our members though, which is where this forum really shines.
We chose to post on here under one username to keep things consistent, give a single point of contact where an admin is needed, and make it really clear that information is coming from Headway rather than another community member.
As a national organisation, we are a UK-wide charity whose mission is to improve life after brain injury. You can find out more about our work at headway.org.uk/about-us.aspx . We have a network of local groups and branches who are part of, or affiliated with, the national organisation. They are generally staffed by people from a range of personal and professional backgrounds. You can find out more about the support we can offer at headway.org.uk/How-we-can-h... .
I hope that helps address your question, and please don't hesitate to let me know if you need more information on our organisation.
Best wishes,
Andrew

That is good to know who you all are! I would be in dire straits if it were not for the support and advice given to my family and guidance and support for my children all through Headway. I still feel that more could be done to advertise its services to all age groups though as our local headway was 99% over 60's and that makes it awkward for younger people. It was only there as a socail group that sign posted people to other services. It really did save me from ending it when i just couldnt see past the bits that didnt work anymore.
Many thanks to you and your volunteers x
