I'm not sure where if i was told or read, but is it true a brain injured person (mine was severe) personality can change a certain amount of time after their injury? Its been about a year and half for myself and im begining to notice ALOT!! An if this is right that it oes change after time can it continually change?
Continuesness personality change?: I'm not sure... - Headway
Continuesness personality change?
I found that some people around me were expecting my personality to change, not taking into account the amount of hard work on my part to recover and rest
can only go from my experience, and i had a significant personality change, my wife says sometimes the old me pops up out the blue, but i think learning ways of coping and my attitude and personality changes to accommodate my coping mechanisms.
Not sure, but it can be that some changes become more apparent to the person themself over time due to improving self-awareness... Worth considering as a factor at least...?
My personality changed to someone I'd cross the road to avoid. However in the years of recovery and beyond [my TBI was in 1967] I have mellowed, but the old me is dead and gone.
James Cracknell has suffered a brain injury, his book is out soon, he talks of personality change and the way his wife has had to learn to love a new person. There is heaps of literarture out there and personal accounts from people who have had a brain injury, try Head Injury, published by Oxford Press, it is full of very useful information.
I guess a lot of the difficulties depend on what part of the brain was injured, if it is he frontal lobe area, there is bound to be some personality change.
my brain injury was in june 2011, i damaged the frontal lobe temp lobe and optical lobe, pritty bad it was but i walked away at the time with nothing but a sore head and alot of tiredness now its been a year odds im really starting to notice alot of snapping moods andquite often my personality is almost diffrent everyfue days
The bigest change in my personality has been that I talk a lot, possibly due to me being bored now that I do not work
As my husbands caregiver I see someone very different everyday and his accident was in June of 2010.
six years on and i still change mood and personality in a heart beat
it depends on how i,m feeling as most of it is about feeling
just be your self how you see yourself matters a lot
My son had a tbi Oct 2011. I have suddenly noticed a terrible change in him and have just found out he is taking drugs. I think he is going through depression. I am out of my mind with worry and hopefully get him to Doctors tonight. I kept saying at the time shouldnt he be having councilling, but there doesn't seem much help out there.
Hard not to change after a BI, but it will depend on which part of your brain is affected, I guess. I had TB meningitis and was left with retrograde amnesia, so I didnt remember any of my recent life at all. It meant the loss of lots of relationships and I don`t remember the `old`me but the new one is quite feisty and not very tolerant or easy going anymore. I am told I am different. When you have had a BI you need to be gentle on yourself, dont worry about other people, if they love you they will understand.
