My husband has a severe head injury due to a fall 12 weeks ago. He is still very confused. We are currently in limbo as very little progress has been made. He is still bed bound with a feeding tube and can't leave the ward. Can anyone share their experiences as I'm finding it very frustrating at the minute

Serious head injury
Hi Joicey. Can I ask if 'Cyprus2005' is your daughter as your posts are so similar, and my reply to you would be identical to my reply to her.
Either way, my sincere best wishes for your husband's good progress. Regards, Cat x
Could I ask what is being said by his consultants and rehab team? Is he any closet to being able to go into rehab or are they waiting for some changes? Have you had a word with Headway?
It is a very hard and very frustrating emotional process as I'm sure you have experienced and read from various posts on the groups. 3 months is quite a long time for no real info on the potential of recovery or steps forward. ❤️
12 weeks seems early days to me. Have a look at information on Headways website. Lots of helpful support on their phone line too.
hello Joycey1. I agree that 12 weeks is a very short time after a brain injury. My husband had a TBI 4 years ago. He was in Addenbrookes hospital the local trauma centre in Cambridge for 12 weeks or a little more. He was then moved to a rehab 1 hospital in London during Covid and stayed another 12 weeks still with a tracheostomy tube in his throat. To cut a long story short he came back home after 18 months nil by mouth with aRIG, a catheter and without thre trachy tube. So it can take a long time to get better. If I were you I would speak to his consultant at the hospital he is in and ask him to explain what is happening in the short term. All the best
I have a brain injury from an accident 3 years ago and all I can say is to give it time. 12 weeks is so early (I keep getting told that 3 years is still really early days) it's going to be frustrating, just give things time.
suffered mine in 2000, month in an induced coma so unaware of all the worries my hubby/ family went through. 6 months in various hospitals, clinics biggest battle was for them. Saw the old me, unable to process the lady before them!! Took part in a research study at the Royal free 4 years later, helped my recovery far more, because I was more able to learn? The main thing I did learn was to SMILE to spite my TBI. Try it whenever it all gets too much…just be alone! They may call the men in white coats!!
Hello Joicey1!
My lovely man had a cardiac arrest and suffered a big bang when he fell and, because it was out-of-hospital he lost oxygen to his brain too. That was 01/03 this year. ICU/cardiac ward/rehabilitation unit. It's been a huge mental trauma for me too but things are improving. All I'll say is please, please be patient. Look after yourself. Try talking therapies. I also went to antidepressants. Lots of love to you
Hi Joicey1, Following a severe traumatic brain injury 12 weeks is still very early in his recovery process. I agree with previous comments ask his consultant/doctor as much as you can - they might not know themselves as brain injury is so complicated. My 23yr old son spoke for the first time in 7yrs following his TBI so never give up hope. However tired your husband seems talk to him and most important look after yourself too. Please ask me any questions, sending love.
