I had a shunt inserted 2 weeks ago to address my poor balance. I’m still having problems in walking/balance. Will that improve?

Hello Helena. I also have a VP shunt that was fitted 3 years ago after developing Hydrocephalus following surgery. Unfortunately your balance has almost certainly been permanently affected as a result of damage; that said, you will find you have good and not so good days from now on. My Neurosurgeon explained that it all depends on how your brain is coping on the day so anything you can do to limit stressful situations should help. I wish I could tell you it will get better with time but from my own bitter experience that may not be the case. I wish you all the best and would be happy to chat more if it helps. Take care.
