The physio I got from the NHS, six sessions with a private physio under a public private scheme was useless. I ended up going to YouTube to find chiropractor and mindful-movement techniques and they worked perfectly. Oddly none of these are recognized by the NHS. Just try things out and see what happens but you have to do them every day for a couple of months.

I've got a private physio via claimed insurance, I am having the first session tomorrow. After the assessment he said it will be the neck we will work on. Since I am early days with post-concussion (1 month and a bit since it happens) I am not sure if head massage is possible, recommendable at all. He did mentioned we had small muscle around our head that migh hurt. I understood from a friend that you can self referred to a physio via NHS

I’m currently talking though the impact on head injuries with Heady .. they are compliling an app on concussions rehab which are hoping the NHS will use … if I hear any more from them I will be sharing on here as this is so much needed .. or I guess they will share on here as they have posted before about what they are doing .. My normal osteopath was apparently trained as a cranial osteopath - she holds my head in a peculiar way, and for days after that, i am better. Don't know why, but better. No headaches, much better cognition - less tired, more able to get things done. Private, so only affordable once in a while, in certain months when i save up. Useful though.

Here is the link at which I read about what they can do:

I don't know if it will work for you. . . I just offer my experience. It's a possible option. My doctor, a mother of two, swears by this lady, who apparently sorted out her baby's crying at night with two treatments. That is what made me revisit her. Not regretted it.

I think cranial therapy can be very powerful. My massage therapist, also a physio, also does the cradling weird head hold that just feels amazing and nurturing at the time, I usually get some twitchy reactions during but it feels amazing afterwards too. My head is clearer and I feel less congested for sure and my neck looser.

I don’t have experience of any specialist NHS physio so can’t offer insight of that, only of private therapy I’ve experienced.

As a massage therapist myself, I’m aware of the powerful impact that acupressure points called the gates of consciousness at the base of the skull can have. Numerous clients (and myself when being treated) have experienced an immediate release of tension, some describe as a ‘whooshing’ sensation of the tension leaving the head and a whole host of other benefits described by others, better cognition, less brain fog, more positive, even my eyes have felt clearer. There’s definitely a connection to the spinal cord and how this feeds into the rest of the neural network around the body not just in the brain.

I don’t know what will work for you personally but I would certainly do some research into a cranial therapist who specialises in head injuries. And you should expect them to give you a clear treatment plan on your first session if they are any good, so that you have an idea of what to expect, and that they know what they are doing!

Sorry, I seem to have gone on a bit here but hope that’s useful.

All the best and hope you feel some benefits of therapy soon, wherever it comes from.

Hi Muzzyfoxster, I went to a private sports physio who specialised in post concussion rehab ( Theo Farley) I was referred to him by my neurologist. The neck manipulation he did was totally different to what the local ordinary physio had been doing - and was aimed at clearing up my constant headaches. It wasn't always that comfortable, but I think it did a lot to help.

Thanks..really getting desperate..think about to go through same useless nhs physio...they just waste your time..I explained I needed a neck scan..to which the nhs physio replied, "who told you this?"Was going to say research but told them friend if friend is a neuro expert and it almost opened a closed door

There might be more than one thing triggering your headaches, or a combination of things of course. The chap I saw was Dr Theo Farley at Pure Sports Medicine if that helps?
