This is such an awkward thing to post knowing what my response would be, which is to just scroll down and assume spam or a con artist.... I am a very hardworking human who has never taken a handout or asked for help in any way from anyone. Its a fault I'm told I have. Problem is, now that I need help, theres no one around. no fault to their own. just not a high income sort of community lol

I hope you take the time to read my story below and i totally get not being able to help financially... obviously ha. and i know giving money to some stranger is not everyones favorite use of their money spent, but if you could please share this. At the very least to show how pcs is not taken seriously enough. To lose my job and to be potentially sued if I dont comply is just too much.

anyways, I've been annoying for too long. I am very sorry again to use this thread like this. I apologize if I offended anyone in any way and i hope for whatever reason you are on here (going through it or someone you know) im sending my love for it to get better. This is not a fun injury to say the least.

here are some ideas.

1. From what your say it sounds like you were unfairly dismissed from your job. It was one incident and probably not enough to constitute grounds for dismissal. In particualr, you should have been given at least one warning. You would probably have a claim for unfair dismissal. But bear in mind that you are only protected under normal unfair dismisal law if you have been working for a sufficient period of time at the employer.

2. More importantly, assuming that your employer knew (or could reasonably have been expected to know) about your barin injury, then he/she should have discussed the posisbility of reasonable adjustments to your job to take account of that disability. They might for example have agreed that you should not have to do a shift on your own until feeling better. If you employer did not consider reasonable adjustments, then your dismisal would constitute unlawful discriminatory dismisal contrary to the Equality Act 2010.

There is no requirement for length of service for protection under equality law. You were protected from the day you started work.

3. Get advice from a solicitor who specialises in discrimination law or get advice from your local CAB. Headway also has a list of solicitors. With help, put together a "letter before action" for your ex-employer. State that you believe tha your dismisal was unlawful and dsicriminatory and that you are seeking say £10,000 in compensation. With a good solicitor or advocate then hopefully they will settle out of court for say £6,000.

If they were to fight it at an employment tribunal then it would cost them at least that in lawyer's fees plus the posibility of having to pay around £10,000 at the end.

4. Apply for PIP.

darn, I just noticed that you are in Canada, not the UK. But employment and discrimination laws are pretty similar in both countries. And so the general points still apply.

Not sure this is the place to post such a thing tbh. If you spend any time on this site you will realise that the vast majority of people here struggle financially, having had to reduce hours/stop work because of tbi and other neuro issues. Many are fighting for the minimal rights accorded to them under the ever diminishing welfare state system, others are seeing any savings they had disappear before their eyes.

As you note there is also a significant security issue in relation to sending money over the internet to a gofundme site for another person on the basis of a posted story. Not something I would follow up unless I personally knew them, but perhaps I am unusually cautious.

In terms of practical help can offer suggestions as to what we have done to tackle the cash problem - including moving house (from 5 beds down to 2 ina cheaper district) to downsize and reduce rent and outgoings, claiming on insurance policies and the like, learning to feed a family of 4 on £35 a week for the pinch points when rent is going out but the paycheck isn't in yet...

It is tough. Many of us here have the t-shirt, as the saying goes. Hope you find a way through.

Hi, I was earlier reading Google and saw about someone with terminal cancer who died shortly after being told that he had to go to work, by the DWP . I read down some paperwork that they had sent me for my PIP and saw that I'd been receiving ESA between July 2016 and June 2016. Spot the mistake!!! Even with the mistakes as with yourself, I have worked hard and dangerously all my life, had DLA for a year after my brain injury and taken off it because of PIP. I'm sure there's a lot more stories that we could talk about. Dave

Hi,

I'm so sorry you've unexpected found yourself in this position through no fault of your own.....it's a freak accident. I agree with the many helpful suggestions above - do pursue some of them and see if you can get yourself back to normality.

My suggestions are probably not as helpful - but if things are desperate.....

Firstly. It's important that you write at once to all the credit card people and debt people you owe money to. When my mum died, I wrote to all the people she had bills with and they suspended everything temporarily while everything got sorted out. If your doctor would give you a letter to say you're ill / medical note, then they would perhaps just stop adding interest to bills for a while so you can tell them a lower amount of money you can pay each month when you get settled.

Secondly - think about the possiblity of giving up your apartment and if she has space, move in with your mum temporarily until you can afford to pay for your own accommodation again. This will remove a lot of pressure. It will also stop your landlord pursuing you for rent money. Anything you earn will go towards paying your bills off. Start again from fresh once you're well enough to retune to paid employment and get an appartment / bedsit / house share - with a full height ceilings xx
