Wondered if anyone had seen changes like mine following a ABI. Since hitting my head the early changes I noticed was loosing my fear of dogs, spiders and heights.
Now nearly 2.5 years in and finding out/recognising new things like no longer being scared of the mask in the Scream films. Watched Halloween and Silence of the Lambs recently which didn't bother me. Previously I would have been hiding behind a cushion.
So was interested to see if there's anyone in a similar place.

I have heard of people being able to speak foreign languages and other changes. With me I found I could write with my left hand almost as well as my right. The brain is a strange thing that I and many others dont understand. Even some neurosurgeons who know more than most, admit to struggling to understand how the electro chemical changes can affect so many things. Its certainly true that the brain can cause actions, restrict actions or modify and slow actions.
A whole world out there to learn about.
A book recommended to me on here is Concussion by Kester J Nedd, an American neuro who freely shares his knowledge in his book and it goes from the everyday American football examples of concussion and other BIs through to the functioning of the synapes and other technical descriptions with real life case studies. Its not an easy read but if you want to find out more like I did , its top notch
If the bleed affects the emotional part of the brain it can change your temperament and you can have personality change and become very emotional or more the the opposite. I was a little sensitive but now I'm a mushy mess. I've read many who say they don't even cry or fear anymore. But not to confuse frustration which we all tbi survivor's have with anger. The true test is a real fear situation like survival. For eg... If your not scared of the hot fire threatening you or vicious dog then your brain is not telling the body to protect its self and that is worrying. Take care hun x
Thank you. Definitely more emotional but thankfully my fear loss seems low scale. So the big scenarios you mention I know are a big problem. As for anger that's a whole new thing too. No longer is it full scale anger of the past (that makes me look like bad but it was a normal get angry feeling), but more that I get a frustrating angry that doesn't peak. It just sits midway and doesn't get a release. Making me more frustrated at times. Two and a half years in and it feels like I'm still learning who I am.
