Early intervention pycosis

As I think I've put previously I was sectioned on the 17th October and hospitalised for a month. On coming home after just 48 hrs my symptoms were getting worse again the same two voices back speaking to me a lot. I had visit from home team who made appointment for the early intervention pycosis team to come and assess me. It was a very long assessment but got a call the next day to say I had been accepted on the team. They came out to see me yesterday and I met the nurse who has been assigned to me. They were very good and apparently I'm on the early pycosis 3 year treatment plan so am guaranteed help for at least 3 years. I have morning appointment next Wednesday with specialist doctor who will be looking at my case and prescribing anti pycosis meds if its needed. I will get regular health check ups every three months if I'm starting on meds with an ecg and blood tests. Am particularly worried that meds are not bad for my heart as I had heart attack 11 months ago. Am also worried about weight gain I've lost a stone since the heart attack and don't want to put on again. It's strange thinking that I'm now diagnosed as having pycosis which I guess means I'm pycotic which is scary. This diagnosis will be with me for the rest of my life which is strange feeling. Top priority for me is to try and keep a grip on reality and get rid of the voices. Easier said than done I expect. Thanks for reading and your support.

Hi again Dave. I'm so sorry to hear the disturbing symptoms are back after what seemed, initially, such promising signs.

But being sectioned has created immediate access to treatment rather than languishing on a waiting list for months. And psychosis is just a word to describe a certain mental health issue isn't it m'love ; so don't be too phased by it.

There are different treatments through which it can be minimized or managed, but medication is often the first choice in silencing the voices. I hope this time round you'll hit upon the best remedy for this debilitating illness.

Different I know, but I've needed medication since adolescence for clinical depression and I don't feel stigmatized by treatment which gives me a decent quality of life.

Please keep the updated coming when possible Dave. It can be a long process, but it seems you're in safe hands..

Thinking of you... Cat. x

So sorry to hear your pyrosis has returned . But am pleased to hear the mental health team are working with you .. with their help this can be controlled nd speak to them about your meds and possibly side effects as they will have the answers of any possible side effects which you also can monitor with regular weighing .. as with all meds they react differently with everyone who takes them but don’t be put off taking them because of something that might happen as all the down sides can be monitored and also may never happen . I have worked as a mental health support worker and have seen positive recovery .. best wishes and with the help you are getting you are definitely in the right road ..Sue x

Hello Dave

I'm sorry to read you feel scared by your diagnosis. As Cat said, it is a word to describe your symptoms. Just like depression describes difficult different stages of symptoms.

Where I live locally, psychosis is one of the mental health conditions that is well supported and has a team on hand. It sounds like you have been accepted in to the same support, treatment (if needed) and monitoring. That is good news.

You have mentioned how you feel about the diagnosis and your wider concerns (quite right). I guess it is important to be open about these on here and to the team and to your GP. You seem to be open about your health struggles so again that is good news.

Perhaps write them down so that they are tangible and to ensure you raise them when you have an appointment. Recently my dad suggested to me that I get a little notebook which is specifically for health related things so that I can list things and look back. It also means that when they are on paper we do not have to try and remember them. You can put the name of the person you discussed with which alos helps. You might already do this! I am not that organised!

You have been through the Mill this year Dave so you must be kind to yourself and acknowledge that any person facing heart attacks and psychosis plus everything else you face, would struggle. You have come through a really hard recent experience and you are through the other side of that. I hope you get good advice on how to react to having voices. Don't despair Dave.
