Hi all, just heard about this treatment using infra red light. Someone told me it is being used to help Parkinson's and Alzheimer's sufferers, but when I checked one of the websites out it said it was suitable for TBIs too . So I was just wondering if anyone had tried it?

Yes Flower, I googled it too and saw mention of brain injury. But it's looking like no one here is familiar with it ; It isn't a term I've ever heard of either, until now.

Maybe ask Headway direct on 0808 800 2244 for their opinion on the treatment ? Let us know how you get on m'love... x

I have not tried that but it looks interesting. However since Christmas I have tried using a 'light box' on my husband, just a basic one. l do feel that we may be seeing some benefit, he looks more alert. I asked a couple of staff if they had noticed any change and they feel there is. Coincidence? Maybe, but I will carry on using it..

You mean the blue light, for SAD therapy? Yes, I got one for my husband not long after his injury, I'd put it on for half an hour each day. Unfortunately it stopped working after some time. I should really get another one. I'll keep looking into the infra red though. X

It's just one of those really bright ones to treat SAD etc. I am not sure if it's classed as blue light. I am very interested to see how you get on with your red light investigations too!

I have tried it and I swear by it! Its helped me loads I would definitely recommend trying it if you can. It makes me abit fuzzy immediately after but after a nap I recover to better than I was before. It has lifted my mood, made me more optomistic, I think its improved my overall function and reduced pain. I tried to go once a week for about 2 months and now I don't go as often because I am doing alot better. :) Good luck

Oh wow, that's so good! Thanks for replying. Can I ask where you had to go for it? And is it very expensive?

Im hoping more people will find out about it and try it. My partner found a scientific paper explaining the benefits of it post TBI which is what got me into it.

So I live in Wales and have tried one in Cardiff which was a red bed - a full body bed that you have to lie in for 12 minutes, the price fluctuates depending on if you buy a few sessions or do pay as you go. (ill add the link below)

I don't live near Caridff and I can't always travel that far or afford to get to Cardiff to use the bed, so I found a local practitioner who has got a much smaller machine which has a shower head with red light coming out of it. She basically targeted different parts of my head using this machine. So it wasn't as powerful, but I still needed a rest after it and I felt it do something!! it was £40 I think, and she also gave me lots of other advice and help.

It Is recommended to try and go regularly to get the best results. I have seen machines that you can buy to use at home, like little lamps you sit in front of. I am not sure how effective they are but some people love them.

Its a shame it is so expensive and I wish more people had access to it because I have found it so effective. Its hard to work out exactly what it does initially but over time I felt improvements and a reduction is symptoms that I dont think would have happened without trying this out!

Goodluck. xxx

Thanks again. Yes, Cardiff is a bit far, we're in Merseyside. Sorry for pestering, but could I ask what you entered to find a place near you? Unless by chance you're in the same part of the country as us...! X

Here’s a good article with some useful links in it too by MD Robert Malone:

Also you can search novothor near me. Novothor is the name of the red bed. Otherwise we searched red light therapy and photobiomodulation and just trawled through the websites. Good luck I hope you get a chance to find it and try it x

Thanks for that, will have a go. When I googled, I did find a couple of places, but they seem to be more like beauty salons, more cosmetic. But Novothor sounds lovely kevit has more possibilities. X

Thanks, I chatted to a man from the one in Derby. It's the nearest one to us in Liverpool, but still a 140 mile round trip! It only opened at the start of COVID, so not that well established. He'd only seen one person with any kind of head injury, which was a concussion. We'll have to think about it, not in a position to do it yet, but think we probably will in a few months. Thanks again.x

Hi there,

Bought an expensive helmet for my husband (about 1.5K). It does help but it’s pointless to do on skin covered in hair (hubby is losing his luckily!) and they need to be laser diodes NOT LED diodes like most of the cheaper devices.

Since I bought that one more research has come out showing that infrared is actually better than red light for scalp penetration.

Having said all that, it does help a little. But to be honest we’ve noticed the biggest improvement from exercise that aLao improves blood flow. Basically anything that improves blood flow improves cognitive function.

So a much cheaper option is exercise!

Thanks for that. I think we'd (actually, I, as he doesn't really care, it's always me pushing for things!) like to try the full body treatment, as he is stiff and unsteady on his feet. He does do exercise , but it doesn't seem to help. But we'll wait until Autumn. X
