I've just come across this site and the Headway thing. I honestly cried when I found it, I was so relieved to find the info & a community of people who have experience of frontal lobe damage.
My condition is not so bad compared to some on here. I have memory problems, difficulty concentrating and really can't learn new things very well at all.
The psychiatrist has told me that it is irreversible & that's where I am now; coming to terms with it. I'm quite upset about it as I've had a passion for learning all my life but it is what it is.
I'll be trying to get the card thing, it's a cracking idea. Not that I'm expecting to get into trouble with the police but it would be great to show at train stations when I have to get a connection or when I have to see medical people etc..
Thanks for taking the time to read, I'm looking forward to understanding this more, as long as I remember this site exists 😂

hi there and welcome , I have frontal lobe and temperal lobe damage from a rare brain infection. I'm 2 1/2 years in and doing well albeit it's not easy accepting your new normal. Here if you want to chat.emma
Welcome to the community. This is a safe place to ask anything, to share the good and the not so good, or just to have a rant. We all have lived experience as survivers, or as cares. Everyone's journey is individual, but as a collective we have been there. Always check with a professional before taking any medical advice. I'm glad that you have discovered Headway, they can make a real difference. 🍀
Headway has been of great assistance in coming to terms with my damaged brain. I now understand why I am so flirty with the ladies and outspoken on whatever subject riles me. Turns out all my brain is damaged and has shrunk. Surprisingly, my intellect is intact. Just have to hope my marriage survives this hiatus.
HI Painting girl. I'm not entirely sure what caused the injury. The symptoms started to appear around 45years old and have progressed since. The psychiatrist says that ties in with brain shrinkage.
Also ordered green lanyard from Hidden Disabilities website along with a card that specifically covers brain injury. I use it in work and plan to where I am somewhere new or extra crowded. Back of it explains in a couple of sentences what is covered. Thought better to be prepared
Hi Seamus. I had a frontal lobe bleed (Subarachnoid haemorrhage) 10 years ago and, like you, I've badly missed my former intellectual life and work. My main cognitive losses are word finding and remembering what I did yesterday.
Can I ask how you your brain injury came about, and how long you've been living with it ?
Glad you've found us m'love ; this forum is my 'safe' place ! See you again soon 🙂.... Cat x
HI Cat, I'm sunsure. I've had a few head injuries in the past but the symptoms of the frontal lobe damage only started about 9 years ago, tying in with normal brain shrinkage. The psychiatrist says this has brought the problem into prominence.
Like you I'm struggling to remember yesterday and another of stuff I do remember fades over a week.
The original diagnosis was anxiety as that can cause memory issues. I've pushed for it to be looked at more as it's got worse.
Ah, I see. It must've been really frustrating for you over the years. I do understand how hard knocks to the head can be written off as lucky escapes when there's no obvious consequence.
I've actually been hit hard with a lump-hammer on my crown (purely accidental) and fallen twice on ice bashing the back of my head on the pavement .....each time marvelling at my skull still being in one piece !
But well done for fighting your corner. I still get the usual spiel of 'everyone forgets stuff' but can't be bothered these days to argue the case, so just shrug it off. 🥴
Keep pushing forwards Seamus. See you later, Cat x
Hi Seamus. Welcome to our community. So sorry to hear you are suffering. I know it won't suddenly make everything better for you. But sometimes it really helps just to know that others are here to listen and empathise with you. And I agree, the card is so helpful.
