Huge feeling of success though totally exhausted

I decided I’d write about my success of last weekend rather than my negative posts. My partner and I are both motorbikers. After my TBI and subsequent bike crash Graeme rebuilt my bike. Before last weekend I had ridden the bike just 5 times for short distances but we had booked to take part in the bike rally Stormin’ the Castle near Bishop Auckland. Graeme carried the bulk of our luggage on his bike to avoid adding to much weight to mine. We rode a total of 327 miles thankfully in good weather and enjoyed the entertainment at the rally. Because of my left hand issues I struggle with clutch control when pulling away from junctions and traffic lights occasionally stalling the bike and am now investigating adaptations that can be made to the bike with the help of the National Association of Bikers with Disability to keep me on two wheels. Although absolutely exhausted when I got back home I did have a huge sense of achievement and am hopeful that I will be able to keep biking in some form going forward. I am eternally grateful to my partner, Graeme, for always being willing to ride as my wingman.

Great post Ftt. I was very much involved in the biker scene in my youth and understand the passion. I hope you'll get the necessary adaptations for your bike to stay on the road safely...

glad to hear you are able to enjoy your hobby again, ftt, hope you can get those adaptations done. It is a big deal. And, good you still enjoy it...ie your feeling about it isn't changed.

(Sometimes we do feel differently about some stuff.)

Thank you for your support and understanding. I do have mixed feelings about being on the bike but generally it’s one of pleasure. If I can get the clutch issue addressed without havi b to buy a new, automatic bike I will gain greater confidence I’m sure.

Well done you.you.Glad you enjoyed the rally.rally.We were both bikers(I rode a trike because I have balance problems on 2 wheels due to hearing problems)Unfortunately after my husbands brain injury we had to sell bikes and trike(he built it for me too ,so it was a wrench).I did try taking him on the trike, but he freaked out and nearly came off.off.I dididn't feel safe with him.him.We were both involved with various bike clubs over the years and its something I miss.miss.We used to go to rallies all over the country.country.Glad you can still enjoy going out on your bike.bike.Stay safe and enjoy the wind in your hair(and flies on your teeth).xx
