My wife has been on a trauma rehab hospital ward from some time now but is heading towards her next stage. The team on the ward believe she no longer needs to be in a hospital setting but has the capacity to continue to improve and so should move to a neuro rehab facility.
Three have been considered but one does not have availability until August (earliest) so that leaves a choice of two. The choice won't be up to me but I will have an input if I tell the Rehab and Placement Service that I have a strong preference for (or reservations about) either facility.
I've looked at their websites, CQC reports etc (in fact one is new so has not been CQC inspected but I've read the report of a 'sister' facility run by the same organisation). I plan to phone them and hopefully visit (unless Covid restrictions get in the way) but apart from a general feel for the place, I'm not sure what I'll be looking for.
I've had some helpful pointers from another member here on the back of another post. Also the Dr from the Rehab Placement team gave me some suggestions but also pointed out that they will be looking at many of the same things themselves.
For those who have been through this before me, can I ask:
What was important to you when assessing a neuro rehab facility? Or what do you wish you'd looked more into at the time?

Went through this last year, my son went to a brand new one with no cqc report but afre reading some cqc reports from established ones which were awful I was so worried, ask about staff, agency? Or local, temp or permanent, you need permanent local staff for consistency I think look at the place see how you gel, son has been there 4 months now he's been so well looked after and staff are proper straight with him, he should be there about 3 years so we needed to get it right and if it stays the same I.m happy, ask questions about going out of rehab, one I saw let them go out to the pub often and after some questioning I found that a lot went drinking at night and only one staff member on duty so drunken fights happened, not for my son at all, another the bathrooms were not fit for purpose at all, jeez, good luck and go with gut,
