Communication difficulties

I am having problems with communication. I have experienced word finding problems, I sometimes say tge wrong word and if I am interrupted when speaking I forget what I am saying altogether. Like some one has just wiped a white board. I have tried talking to my GP and my neurologist. I want a further cognitive assessment. I feel it might be related to an existing TBI ,my age and possibly hormone changes relating to the menopause. I am not sure of tge best way to proceed. Please advise

hi, my names Dave, I got hit on head last may , I've started the same forgetting words or mumble words out, its frightening , don't think can just be age, but I believe I might start going out more and not being afraid of messing up and meeting people with similar worries maybe a start.

Hi tennijul, I have the same problem, I had a bleed on the brain four years ago, thought I had recovered well but noticing problems occurring. My aneurysm became enlarged was pressing on brain stem then blocked by blood clot and has shrunk so not sure where we’re up to now but word juggling can be a problem, I have penguins frequently in my back garden, considering I live near Manchester that’s not bad, the brain frequently substitutes a similar word to one I was trying to think of , we have learnt to laugh it off, oh and the penguins are pigeons lol. I also have the white board syndrome, if anything distracts me mid sentence the whole topic is lost to a black hole foe ever. Hope this is of help to you love Alice xx

I lose what I'm saying mid thread as well, tennijul, to me it seems a bit more than a 'normal' losing the thread of what I'm saying , which I guess anyone can do. As Marnie says it's best to talk to the Headway helpline about the type of assessment that might help most - but I'm thinking a neuropsychologist might be the way to go - but see what Headway say.

I've just got really practiced at owning up and just saying casually / calmly ' Oh I've lost my thread' when it happens ( because that can happen to anyone, and I don't think anyone else thinks anything of it) and then letting the conversation carry on - sometimes, ages later, it comes back to me, and sometimes it doesn't !

Talk to headway. One others have not mentioned is that I can describe something, like 'the place people put their car by their house', for example, but can not remember the word like 'driveway' for example.

‘Aeroplane driver’ was one of mine…
