SAH - leg spasms is driving me crazy😞

Hi I am a SAH survivor I had a massive bleed to the brain and emergency coils X2 fitted as my anuysms had ruptured. Recovery is very slow and it still effects my mobility/sight and fatigue 18 months on 😞 I was hoping to get better and more mobile but I am now suffering with spasms in both legs and intermittent toe cramps which is really painful it happens at anytime of day🥺 Does anyone else have these issues? I take magnesium tablets and stretching exercises but this does not work as my leg muscles always feel tight...I could do with some advice please 😊x

Hi zena, my story is similar to yours except my Annie has regrown and causing problems,, as regards to your leg cramps I would visit gp, have bloods taken for chemical in balance, what is the magnesium for, I had leg spasm whilst in intensive care and was given meds but haven’t needed since, lots of luck love Alice xx

Hi Alibongo60My doctor told me to take them to help with leg cramps and I have just taken a blood test and everything is fine😁so that's good news apart from that I take each day as in comes. Thinking of asking my gp for muscle relaxants but I am really nervous 🥺 thanks Alice it's reassuring to know that I am not the only that has these issues thanks for replying Alice 😀x

Hi Zena. It's useful to view brain injury as an ongoing issue, needing management and the passage of time before reaching an eventual plateau, which can be anywhere beyond 3 years. After a SAH 9 years ago I was determined, despite doctors warning me of 'a very different quality of life', to get back to my old life within weeks. Wrong ! 🙄

I still have balance and memory issues (especially word recall) and intolerance to noise so have said goodbye to both social life and days of walking the Derbyshire hills ! I used to walk for hours but now struggle after a walk to the shops & back. Despite comfy shoes, my toes and soles of my feet are so painful since the bleed that after walking for an hour I literally stagger with the pain and the poor balance.

I empathise with the spasms although mine improved over the years with physio, using Epsom salts and taking magnesium (and codeine for the pain). But where you are, at the18 month stage, there's still scope for much improvement although recovery in the 'Back to who we were' sense is best consigned to fantasy. Whether through meds, orthotics, physio or Botox I hope you'll find relief before too long m'dear... Best wishes, Cat..

Hi cat3, I can't believe how so many people on here have the same issues as me... I suppose I am too impatient 🤣 "time is a healer so I've been told" I have to think positively now and just listen to my body and not rush everything. I feel for you as you are not as active as you used to be🥺 I will try out the Epsom salts thanks x

I have that tight feeling in my left calf and forearm. It's almost like someone is inside my arm and leg pulling on everything. I'm now on a low dose of baclofen and things have improved slightly. It still comes back from time to time but it's better than it was.

You have to be prescribed it by your specialist and they are very reluctant to issue it. Because I'm still trying to hold down a full time job I have to take a very low dose at night.Good luck
