hello.

I’ve had my TBI since 2003. I’ve always had sleep problems since.

It’s come and go in how bad it’s been , but I think it’s a common issue for us all.

about 6 months ago a friend of mine got a grounding sheet and kept telling me how amazing it was .

Eventually I got one about 3 months ago.

I highly recommend to everyone who has a brain injury to get one.

it’s the best money I’ve spent on anything ever.

It’s easy to fall asleep, the sleep is better. Even if I wake up in the night I can fall asleep again which I could never do before.

Also as I exercise a lot, I wake up feeling recovered from yesterday’s exercises, no aches .,

I can’t say enough about how this has improved my life recently. It’s allowed me to cope with my brain injury in new ways because I’m getting better rest.

Please take this advice seriously.

These sheets cost a bit but they’re not that expensive.

I really hope that you’ll get one and then you’ll come on here and post like I have. Before long we could all be feeling better than yesterday.

Good luck 🤞

What is a grounding sheet? (I've heard of a ground sheet, a waterproof membrane used for camping) Can you explain more and give some examples, some videos etc.

What is it made of, how does it work?

I got mine from Sleepearthed, a company based in Herefordshire.

Check out their website.

Or just Google grounding sheets.

Or do both.

It’s all good !

Looked on YouTube for a video review on grounding sheets.

The 2nd bit of this is why I opted not to.

When I dug into that inbound some stuff on us getting too effected by electricity. At least in North America it was some thing to do with the electrics in the house sometimes discharging into the house. I don't remember where I read it , though it was information for people who are environmentally sensitive.

The simple take away I got from that is it amounts to us picking up too much statis charge. This can be remedied by simply standing on a sheet of aluminum baking foil for a few minutes here and there throughout the day.

Certainly doing it before bed can help.

Some people also benefitted to switching to a foam mattress. The coils inside a typical mattress can act like an antennae than concentrates emfs if you live where there is a lot of work fo signals or close to various cell and electrical towers.

You could test it out by getting a camping air mattress and sleeping away from your current mattress for awhile and see if it makes a difference.

I think some people do get benefits from the grounding sheet which is fine; but there are so many variations in brain injuries that it surely won't cover everything.

What I've learned is to try something out if someone else has benefited and just ignore any scientific claims.

The scientific claims shared by Trees below make all sorts of claims in the titles but when you scroll down and read the conclusions it does not say the same thing.

It's one of those things, try it, if it helps then great, and if it don't then forget it and find the next thing.

Like I said below I don't have sleep issues so I can't really comment.

Good points. If it came across as me saying it would be a no for everyone, it was not my intent.

My intend was to give people other options that might be easier for them as who knows what people already have.

Just, for me personally, it's not something I would do in my circumstances.. I do have sleep issues and just don't fight them anymore. Keeping stress down hasn't been possible for many years, though not being stressed about stress is a skill I am working on. I just sleep when I can and make it a priority.

Certainly if the grounding sheet works for some then that's terrific.

thank you for the advice as I’m awake alot 🥴 I’m guessing this is one of the weighted blankets , if iso do you get hot under it as I struggle with getting too hot 🥵 Sue 😊

Sue, it lays underneath your bottom bedsheet, it’s very thin so it’s almost like having an extra mattress protector.

Thank you ☺️ I had never heard of a grounding sheet 😁 will look into this as would so anything other than all the stuff I have that just don’t seem to be working at the mo .. less stress would be the ideal answer but not sure when this will happen 🤪 sue

Hi Steve yes I have one also 👍🏽 recommend also.

For those interested, this is the ‘Science’ page on Rowlands website, one such provider:

In addition, I’d also like to mention the benefits of grounding naturally- i.e. going barefoot on the Earth, on your lawn or in a park, for all the same benefits. Our feet are very receptive to the (good) negative ions. Also, being by the seaside has similar effect due to the negative ions coming off the sea. Or that is what I understand anyway, unless someone tells me otherwise! And I ALWAYS feel better after doing both these things.

Walking barefoot on the beach, brilliant!

in reply toTreesMTBI

Barefoot walking is one of the best I found because it not only allows your feet to 'sense' rather than be confined in a plastic cocoon, but it helps get rid of sciatica and total body tension.

Walking in the rain is also really good.

The grounding sheets apparently work because it is plugged into the earth pin of your electrical socket, HOWEVER, if your house is wifi rich it does not work so you need to turn off wifi etc.

I don't have sleep issues so can't really comment on whether it works or not.

There are also those shoes with really flexy soles that are designed to let your feet move in all the ways they should while still giving protection - not grounding, obviously - but does help your feet get stronger and may improve your balance.

Dr Chatterjee talks about them on his youtube channel.

I mention it here because the barefoot thing reminded me of it - not the grounding thing. They are supposed to make your feet a lot stronger, and I am wondering how much they might help balance, which is something I could sure use.

Yes, I am off on a side bar again.

Maybe it's a grief thing. I understand it takes time.

in reply toLeaf100

Barefoot walking is great for body posture and gets rid of sciatica if you do it for 20 mins twice a day. I do it and it works for sure.

If you want to stimulate your balance stand on one leg for 5 mins then switch to the other one a few times a day. The change is noticeable after a couple of days, I did this too and it worked for me.
