Extreme dreams

Over 14 years ago I had a Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis was in ICU and spent several weeks in hospital with the outstanding Neurology team in Plymouth. One of my earliest memories from that, was Mum leaving my bedside and telling me to get some sleep, but not to dream as my brain needed to sleep too.

Always one for doing the opposite that I am told, I’ve had very vivid dreams ever since. I can smell, touch, taste, hear (different languages) I basically live my dreams. Some are fantastic for instance, Tom Cruise and I are now best buddies after meeting on a ski trip in Les Arcs. A few years later I had another dream about him and he was asking me about our next ski trip just ahead of announcing the joint production of our new movie to my colleagues at work and just a few months ago, I took one of my colleagues to meet with him at his new house he’d brought in Plymouth. The Queen and I are also good friends. Just the other night I dreamt we were looking at images to go on the Christmas stamps for 2021. We shortlisted it down to 2. One with Rudolph and his red nose, the other a more classical feature of the Christa s Tree she normally has at Sandringham. However I was concerned that where her image goes in a postage stamp it would look she was having an argument with the angel at the top of the tree. I’ve played crazy golf with the England Football team, had coffee with Chris Martin from Coldplay at his woodland lodge. Whilst these are all entertaining and somewhat fun, I also have some fairly major nightmares too.

The problem is I wake exhausted. I’ve tried mediation, mindfulness, relaxation. I have a bed routine and have no problems getting to sleep, but I am now at my whits end. Any advice out there? Alternatively I hope I’ve entertained if nothing else!!

Hi, I had and still have this in various forms. I was at my wits end also at the beginning. With a bit of hindsight now I realise that it was, or think, it is part of the repair mechanism, a chemical imbalance, damage to the inhibitory effects on the corpus collosum that divides the right and left hemispheres. Much of it depends on the type of dream/vision. If you are having realistic dreams ie people, like Tom Cruse and other stars these are the left brain subconscious. If your dreams are of spiral patterns, galaxies, coloured dots, geometrical shapes and animals and mythological beings then they are right hemisphere visions.

The best thing I found was just to live these experiences, enjoy them and accept them as a part of you. They will start to diminish at some point and you will miss them. This is something that not many people experience. Cherish them.

Thank you. Whilst they can be vastly entertaining they’re just so exhausting particularly after a busy day or week when I just need a proper sleep. Many of my friends wish for my vivid imagination.

It could be the exhaustion that's propelling the visuals. A kind of hypnagoic state.

Morning,I had a cvst in Oct 14 and definitely had some interesting dreams at the time. Are you still taking any medication?

When I stopped taking the tramadol and switched to amitriptyline it was slightly worse, but settled after a few weeks.
