Coping with Brain Injury in Social Idolation

I’m finding this hard, particularly as one of my Support Workers can come in for 2/3 hours once a week, but Dawn is extremely caring, thinking about, and bringing meals as I can no longer use and have virtually no sensation in my right hand. Basically it doesn’t do what my brain is telling it to! My shopping is being done by a neighbour but it is the loneliness which is the hardest as I live alone. My children live in US, and Sheffield and we contact each other via WhatsApp, FaceTime and Zoom which are wonderful technology. As the grandchildren are obviously not in school, and all their parents working from home, they’re both home schooling too.

I feel I, as Grandma, have more time on my hands anyway as all my gym classes etc are closed-I’d make time anyway.

Even so, the isolation hard as I’ve suffered from depression as a result of 2 brain abscesses requiring 5 surgeries and my life has completely changed now as I can no longer do most of the things I was involved in prior to these illnesses.

I think a local Group-possibly in Haslingden area would be an enormous support as you could actually talk to and see via social media-WhatsApp, FaceTime, Zoom etc those who understand.

It's hard enough staying upbeat when we're able to involve ourselves in activities and projects, but a disability (especially a dominant hand) must cause big problems and frustration.

I hope you'll keep bobbing in m'dear whilst we're locked down ; I find the time passes quickly when chatting here.

Are you able to get out for a walk each day or maybe just to potter in the garden if you have one ?

I must admit I'm spending too much time online and watching TV/Netflix whilst waiting for the 'all-clear' from Covid, but also as much time gardening as my fatigue & joints allow ! Take care m'love….. Cat x

Hi. Nana. I like that. Not trying to confuse you by calling you nana but you said you were a grandma. You're a very brave person going through all that. I live on the Isle of Man and don't have any sight as well as that, I have my abi which was the cause of my epilepsy. I use zoom WhatsApp and FaceTime too. But no twitter and fb because of bullies etc. I hope you are okay and that you find people to talk too. Maybe ask headway about the group, maybe they can make it? Or, maybe you can. A little project :)
