Has anyone used Osteopathy?
Are they aware or useful with patients who have brain injuries?
Any experience or advice please.

I used to have a brilliant osteopath, great for back and muscle problems. I went to her after my BI, she eased some of the muscular issues in the shoulders and back. she tried the tension in my head and jaw and neck problems but was at a bit of a loss. Found a good physio, ex professional rugby one, she was great with the neck. It turned out the tension over the scalp was neurological and was eased after getting specialist glasses. I have looked at plenty of US treatments and they have neuro-chiropractors that seem to do the job. Hope that helps.
Hi Plenty. My advice based on personal experience? Avoid osteopathy for head/neck issues. Go see a qualified physiotherapist as an alternative and talk through whether or not they can help you. Failing that, why not look into gentle head massage or relaxing acupuncture? If you are determined to see an osteopath AVOID (deliberate capitals) cervical spine manipulation or CSM (C1-C7) neck thrust 'corrections' (forcible facet joint opening) and neck traction as well. Also avoid any atlas/axis adjustment. I cannot emphasise this enough. My consultant's face went pale when I told him about the CSM 'therapy' I'd had, and that has been the reaction from every medical consultant I've seen since the trauma that occurred as a result. I'll say no more about what happened on this forum, other than to please be very, very cautious.
I saw an osteopath years ago for neck/shoulder problems. This was before my BI, so I don't really know about that side of things. When I had treatment it was very helpful. I remember after my first session I slept for four hours! My body had never felt so relaxed. I found the experience positive and it certainly helped with my neck/shoulder problems.
