I’ve posted on here a few times since my brother was attacked back in 2017 and suffered a tbi, it’s been a long road however I am pleased to say he can now communicate with us by writing things down which is amazing considering we were told he wouldn’t wake from his coma. He’s currently going through a 4 month rehab program to try and learn him how to talk and eat again , he’s still in a wheelchair and is still being peg fed however he’s writing down all the time he wants to eat now, the salt team are working with him to try and get him to take food however I feel like they haven’t made much progress in the past 4 month succeeding, I had a sandwich in front of him recently and he was indicating he wanted the sandwich and when asked what he would do with it he opened his mouth and pointed to indicate he would put it in his mouth, my reason for my post is has anyone experienced the road to eating after a tbi ? I’ve always found people’s experiences on here to be a massive help

This sounds like his recovery is improving and it can improve even further with some focused professional help. Try and get as much support as possible through the hospital. X
Hi, Unfortunately I have no advice or suggestions on this question. I would like to say that it does sound like big improvements have happened which is super positive. I wouldn’t get to disheartened on the fact that not much improvement has happened of late as I have good improvements and then I seem to plateau for a bit. And then I see improvement again. This could be the case for your brother. Never give up hope in believing x
My daughter was pegged for 3 years following a TBI. Salt we’re very nervous about her swallowing. We started with 1 spoonful of porridge and within a year she could eat everything and had no thickener in her drinks. So my advise would be start with tiny amounts and slowly build up
