Hi burtongal

Fatigue is normal after surgery of any kind, brain surgery especially! I'm 2 months post-op now (although it wasn't an aneurysm) and the fatigue is still severe. I'm in N. Ireland but my post-op review was only last week - the aim was 6 weeks post op, but it ended up being 8.

The advice I got on fatigue was rest when you need to, try to get some exercise like short walks every day, drink plenty of water and eat small meals.

Did you get any idea of when your next op will be?

hi hun , thank you for the reply , i was never spoke to by my surgeon or any nurses while in hospital about the after effects , which i find a very big let down , i can sleep for 12 hours per night , i drink plenty i eat as healthy as i can but find not much appetite as drank so much threw the day , when i asked my surgeon while in hospital about next operation he said at least a couple of weeks , i rang headway up to chat about my after effects and told her about the surgeon saying about 2 weeks she was very surprised as she thinks more like few months , so im in limbo again , sat at home waiting for my life to start im soooo fed up xx

Day 20, I'm 9 months on and still the tiredness floors me, it's got a bit better than it was but it's debilitating at best.

Hi

I had 18mm aneurysm coiled then 6 months later a 5mm coiled also - the right side of my body now collapses when I walk. I had to go and see someone privately to find out that I will always have a limp and never get better. The GP told me that I don't have a BI as I didn't have a heamorage - Thank goodness for this site - it gives insight into what to expect and helps to understand the physical as well as the mental problems after brain surgery. After the first op my follow up was 3 months - it takes time for the brain to settle again - it is such a shock to the body.

So time really is the key - eat well and rest.

Morning, have you spoken to your nearest community neuro rehab team? (I didn't know they existed). They should be able to help you with some of the things you mentioned.

Whilst you are so early in recovery... 20 days is early even though you feel it's a lifetime... Sleep is a good thing. 🙏

I didn't have the same as you but can still easily sleep 10 hours plus per night and I'm nearly 5 years in) . On the positive side I've also moved house and more importantly travelled extensively-China, India, Russia, Canada, Iceland Asia. You need to be patient and kind to yourself.

Hiya, something I mention on a regular basis on here - pretty much every time someone posts anything about sleep exhaustion as it goes (I should change my name to Stace20minutenapM8 , but it's a little trick I learned a few years after my accident, that t me has been a lifesaver (certainly a ' quality of life ' saver anyway ;o).

As it goes, always written individually in the past, but I'll go find my post & copy n paste it ;o)

.

.

TWENTY MINUTE NAP.

Set your alarm for 20 minutes, drink a glass of water ( I'll tell U why shortly ;o).

Close your eyes & block out everything around U, ideally in a quiet room. You can even go t bed & shut the door as I do if I'm able t do so (I prefer have a radio or the Tv on quietly in the background, deter from outside distractions.

Sleeping is not essential, although I do fall asleep pretty much every time now.

The reason U drink the glass of water is because when the alarm goes off, you will inevitably have to get up, cos the chances are you'd rather go back to sleep.

If U do however make sure U set your alarm for 20 minutes before U do.

.

The reason why 20 minutes is because they say after approximately 26 minutes U go into the second, deeper stage of sleep & the chances are U will feel more groggy than u did before the rest. By getting up to go to toilet, this will wake u up & by the time U have finished U should feel refreshed.

.

Please give this a try. Don't say it won't work & dismiss it altogether, like a lot of people do. Do as I say, drink a glass of water, go into a quiet room, set your alarm for 20 minutes, close your eyes & relax completely.

When the alarm goes off, goto the toilet (if U didn't need to, try it again but drink more water ,o) You should feel far more refreshed & ready t face the rest of the day.

If I hadn't found this I would have been walking around like a zombie for the last 25 years.

.

Oh & another thing I will say, please fill out your profile so as to let others know why U had your brain injury, cos in time you will remember details about others & your memory will start to improve. Mine is still shocking but all these little techniques have helped me 10 fold.

Also by looking at my profile, I have given little tips that I have encountered over the last 25 years too and hopefully you will do likewise ;o)

.

Take care & wish you all the best

Listen to what others have said, if you broke your leg would you expect to be up and walking, no. So this is a time game and take it easy and think happy thoughts and let the brain heal itself. Dont take on others problems while you are getting better do not look back in days, look back in a months time and then 2 months . Give brain a break and let it heal with help from you xxx Good luck xxxx
