Has anybody any success with additional pain relief alternatives to codeine and triptans.
I am in several medications and pain blocks, but I have days when I need more. Codeine works best, but all the professions are telling me not to take it. Triptans wipe me out and are more for the migraine headaches than the pressure headaches.

Hi, was going to say get down the hospital if it was internal. I had whole head tension for over a year, what I found that helped for short relief was physio, I'm talking a couple of days here, another thing I realise now is that some of the tension was due to other injuries in the back, neck and arm, it's all linked, stress also. The biggest relief I got was after putting on a pair of prescription tinted glasses for reducing pattern glare and light sensitivity, that cured almost all of the tension. I've managed to get relief for the small bit that's left by walking with bare feet on grass 20 mins twice a day, seems it's linked to a back problem and the bare foot relieves that too. Try anything and don't care what anyone thinks.
Tried prisms and got the tints. They haven't helped me that much. Hot tub helps a bit but only whilst I am under water. Tried physio, but no real improvement and it fatigues me. Exercise makes my headaches worse so I can only go gentle Physio.
I know Codeine is an excellent analgesia but I'm very anti opiates which is what Codeine is. Sometimes problems with the neck can cause awful headaches, could it be that? They're called tension headaches but can be really painful and cause pressure. The muscles around the neck are painful and stiff, the pain can travel up the back of the head, into the crown and then down the sides. Something like Codeine will help with head pain caused by this, but a muscle relaxant like Amitritilyne, Diazepam may work just as well. Syndol is an analgesic specifically for these kind of headaches that can be purchased from a Pharmacist, again it's Codiene but with Paracetamol and an antihistamine. Some antihistamines help with tension and that feeling of pressure. Sorry if I've gone on a bit, I'm a nurse and just letting you know things that may help.
I really hope that you get this sorted out and are pain free.
I have tried Ana/Nortryptaline. I have diazepam, but my Doctor has stop prescribing that due to NICE advice as it was for back Spasms. Again this is an opioid.
Diazepam is a Benzodiazapines rather than an opiate but it can still be very addictive. I really hope you find some pain relief soon, you are in my thoughts my friend.
I am on 125gm of pregabalin for what i used to describe as pressure headaches, they would wipe me out like a migraine does for days on end.
I started on 25mg twice a day increasing by 25 mgs weekly until i found the right dose.
I take 75mg in the morning and 50 mg at night.
This was prescribed when i asked to be referred back to the consultant I had when in neuro rehab. My GP was no help, only prescribing those you mention.
At the time he said to me that if pregabalin was no help there were others we vould try.
Hope this helps

I'm on x2 90mg dihadracodine per day, for headaches I also find paracetamol to be the only thing that helps.
