Well my so called caring company that I have worked for for 18 years (in care for vunerable adults) who have not been supportive since my TBI not even sent me a bunch of flowers are now asking to see my medical records they have not paid me a penny since I've been off work the government have paid me SSP and all this is because since I've been off they have had to pay me my holiday pay ( they even asked me to hand my notice in so they didn't have to continue paying me holiday pay ) what a caring company good job I'm in a union who are fighting my case I urge anyone in the same position to get legal help through a union or other sources

You fight it girl it’s just disgusting what employers do

And this from a company supposedly concerned with care for vulnerable adults ? Appalling treatment of a loyal member of staff.

Stick close to your union rep Bunny & be sure to provide all your medical history and the aftermath. Good luck, and keep us updated m'dear. x

Sadly I suspect your not alone, employers do tend to attempt to drop people fairly sharply. Personally the company I work for was good at least in the initial aftermath, though I’m very sure that was due to the manager at the time rather than company policy etc.

At first I was very upset about it but now I'm angry to treat anyone like this is beyond me especially with my exemplary work record for them makes me feel like I've wasted 18 years of commitment to them my partner sat by my bedside and was told to pray for a mirricle because I wasn't going to live (they knew that) but I did live and they are not gonna get the better of me !

Righteous indignation! Those feelings can drive you onwards!

Disgusting 18 years service and they treat you like this. I hope your union make mincemeat of them.

Good luck 😉

All this is because I've been off sick with a TB!I for 11 months and because it was the end of the financial year there had to pay me holiday pay ( I didn't even know you get holiday pay when off sick) and side this there asked me to hand my notice in !(according to them so I can feel in control of my life) they don't want to pay me holiday pay for this financial year but my doctor's put me off sick for another 6 months maybe more after I put my heart and soul into that job I didn't ask to have a brain haemorrhage and nearly die nor did my family it's not like I've had a bad cold !! Like someone said to me karma is a bitch !

Follow your heart on this one and make them understand it is wrong and help prevent them treating anyone else this way! I have taken my case to the Human Rights Commision in the province I live in and it is so that they will never treat anyone else the way they are treating me. It matters what you do!

That's exactly why I'm doing it so others won't be treated like me Thankyou

I had a similar issue, went back to work 9 months after my brain haemorrhage and the so called workmates I had worked with for 13 years called me selfish, manipulative and a bully for requesting I work at my familiar original work station because that’s what my OT suggested. I went of sick and it made my recovery go right back Ill again.

As for getting holiday pay the company said I wasn’t entitled because the health insurance is paying me a percentage of my wages, so the company isn’t actually paying anything. Never really know if that is correct though.

So I know how you feel.

I can understand that because some of the people I worked with are horrible even though I work in the care sector I couldn't do what I did before doing medication hoisting people driving record keeping my memory is shocking they would soon moan about me but I think the company is treating me awful I've been a dedicated worker so I'm glad I've got the union to help me it might be worth you joining the union I'm in GMB theve been very supportive

what does your contract say about sick pay?

Gym1bunny profile image
Gym1bunny

We don't get sick pay only SSP and that's finished now I'm on pip I hate claiming benefits first time in my life I've had to do it can't wait to find a job and be given the all clear to go back to work

Wow makes me realise how lucky I was in my job, my employers were very supportive and good with sick pay. Sadly had to leave and find another job, as commuting got horrendously stupid with continued train delays and cancellations.

I wish you all the best in fighting your case.

Hugs x
