So where we are at post RTA and severe frontal brain injury and facial damage . Yes we've come a hell of a long way considering the original prognosis but and omg there are so many buts!!!!!!! We are really fortunate to have a tremendous amount of support (thank God for car insurance ) but can anyone give me some positives regarding my daughter's future? Atm she has absolutely no concentration at all her days consist of walking/pacing and eating (she is obsessed with meal times ).. and she likes being taken out in the car ! The neuro psychotherapist says were dealing with ADHD OCD tourettes and PTM stress .... he has prescribed concherta and form of ritalin ?? Anyone got any similarities ...

Can't really help Exhaust except to ask how long ago the Ritalin was prescribed and is it helping ? With complex brain injuries the rehab period can be extended and very frustrating.
It took almost two years for the doctors to get my niece's restlessness under control after a severe brain injury from a head-on collision (someone overtaking on wrong side of flyover) which left her comatose for many months. I do recall it being Ritalin which made the breakthrough. Like your daughter, she had a very caring family ; her father gave up work to sit with her every day throughout the coma.
What does her psychotherapist advise for combatting the compulsive eating ?
xx
Thank you for your response . It's rare to see severe brain injuries in young people . How is your niece now ? I wish there was more support for parents carers families !! It is a very lonely situation to be in . The medication hasn't been started yet the neuro psychiatrist has /is looking into what's best . The compulsive eating is being looked into by an endochorogist . It could be thyroid related boredom or her short term memory .
My niece went on to marry and start a family but since moving from the area I haven't seen her for years. But I remember my mum (sadly passed now) telling me how her parents had struggled after her discharge from hospital, and that rehab had been lengthy and demanding.
But your daughter's doctors and therapist appear to be working towards addressing her issues, slowly I'm sure, but probably best to exercise caution to get the diagnosis and meds right first time.
I hope you'll start seeing positive developments soon m'dear. Please keep updates coming.
Sincere best wishes, Cat x
