PIP update :(

Been a while but I finally got my PIP award through today & considering my review form said there had been no change with my health condition in the last 2 years they dropped my points from 19 to 11 for the care & from 16 to 10 for mobility as from 2nd January 2019, to be reviewed again September 2020. Dont know what thats all about, dropped to standard on both parts & dont know if i should appeal or not? The hospital i attend once a week for rehab want me to have PA through social services & DWP taking the enhanced award which says is in place until June 2019 because i cope to well, so standard rate will run from january 2019 uhh, does anything make sense... NEVER. Do i go with the flow or ask them for mandatory reconsideration? By the way 'Happy New Year' everybody. Im so confused

Happy new year to you too , At least they are awarding you something. I don’t understand it all either but if you aren’t happy about it then you should appeal but get some expert advice first which I’m sure you will have done already. It beggars belief how the powers at b make their decisions . So annoying , what do they know of how you feel ?Personally , I’m fed up with people saying “ you are looking great” when I could curl up .

Given the number of appeals, which are successful at Tribunal (65%), it means it's likely to be wrong.

However if it goes before a Tribunal they will look at the whole situation, this can mean some people can walk away with no award. You therefore need to get the opinion of a Welfare Benefit adviser. They should be able to assess other points which may have been appropriate AND explain how you can avoid your award being removed.

If you request a Mandatory Reconsideration you are not committed to go to appeal and any appeal can be withdrawn before the hearing.

If you've identified the points you should have been awarded and request a M.R., provide copies of any evidence you possess which supports your case.

Accessing advice is the best thing you can do given the complexity of some situations.

Hi Sam,

Happy new year.

Things in this world do make sense but usually when money is involved, not a lot makes sense at all.

I was assessed for PIP on the first week of December and I do not feel very confident at all about the results.

The letter/leaflet I got sent to me before the assessment told me that there wasn't much to worry about and the assessor would treat me compassion and respect... famous last words.

What a load of boswollox that was then.

They spoke right out of their A-hole there.

The guy that assessed me was ex army, so he was loud and abrupt. Because he was abrupt, he kind of shut me down when answering questions.

Some questions, I would tell him this or that and he would say "Yeah, I don't really care about that"!!

Well I care cos otherwise he is going to give me an awful report and I won't get what I am rightfully entitled too.

The leaflet also said that I can bring a friend or relative into the assessment to help me answer questions. My mum was with me and he basically told her to keep quiet and let me answer the questions!!

So as I say, I am not confident at all and I WILL get what I am entitled too because I will get help from my local Headway.

The DWP really cheese me off though cos they say that the PIP is to catch out the people who are cheating the system, the people that don't deserve it.

Well their little system is not working well at all because my uncle was saying how he knows somebody who was awarded PIP and they don't have a lot wrong with them!

This is why I think there is a lot more to just trying to catch out people who cheat the system. What the DWP have done to some people is inhumane.

Anyhow, after saying all that I have another assessment next week. I think it is to do with my ESA benefits.

Hi Matt, the system is all over the place, as is my head lol

. Reading over the original award comparing it to the latest one, it sounds like im 2 different people, considering the only thing thats changed in the last 2 years is my age, (yep im 2 years older, but aged about 10 years). Good luck with your ESA assessment. I had mine week after my PIP assessent & it was awarded a week later. Dont know if thats effected now because pip, but im going to get some advice

Sammm2k,the thing u said about the no change in the last 2 yrs was used to either give me zero points in ESA,or in PIP recently, was so stressful just filed it all away. But i fought both & got both. PIP especially have admitted they just make it hard so u give up(i did with PIP in 2015!). But as someone else said if u get parts of PIP u may lose if u go to tribunal. I didn't even turn up to tribunal for PIP recently & went from zero on all to basic in both parts-so who can tell how it works!

Not what you're looking for?
