Doctor appointment

Right I registered with a new doctor and today I meet him . I don’t like him at all . This is going to be a nightmare. Can I ask to see another doctor at the same clinic, or am I stuck with this idiot

He might surprise you, give him chance but I am sure you can change doctors and/or surgeries but the question you have to ask yourself is: will it be worth the stress?

I swear going to the doctor is like going into battle. Everyone from waiting room, receptionist, and now it seems i have another obstacle the f*****g doctor

B - Everyone is in the same boat we all have battles trying to get a doctors appointment and the dragon that is the receptionists did you not see my post about the worst rated surgeries in Bristol ....

Well I refuse to see my 'named' GP following bad experiences with "The doctor from hell", in my practice when I'm offered a appointment it may mean I have to wait longer to avoid her but I rarely go to my GP practice.

I did give her a chance but she failed on a couple of occasions before I struck her off. The final straw came when she resisted making a referral to Neuro-rehab because "There's nothing wrong with you".

I think it depends on whether the GP is interested enough to do a bit of background reading. I've had a number of GPs and as they had little or no knowledge they have educated themself regarding TBI symptoms.

I'm saying I've had very good GPs before this one and I don't have to see her again.

I had four Neurologists tell me there was nothing wrong with me before I was eventually tested and problems were found. You may find this GP is fine once you've sat down together, although from your first experience I can see why you've got concerns.

Oh, that resonates! I have a 'preferred' GP at my practice, because the other two were so blatantly dismissive of me. (I know I'm sometimes 'challenging', but that's generally in response to people just not listening to me.)

To cut a very long and tedious story short, after years of "Well, that's to be expected." and "Some people aren't so lucky.", I've managed to wangle the referral to Neurology that 'Workplace Well-being' and my better GP asked for TWO YEARS AGO. The latest theory is that I might be experiencing something along the lines of 'Post Subarachnoid Haemorrhage Migraine Mimic.', which is potentially able to be reduced/controlled by medication.

Two bloody years of having significantly reduced capacity, and the poor, overstretched NHS juggling me around like a hot potato that nobody wants to keep hold of. "That's pre-existing, not brain injury.", "That's your brain injuries, not mental health.", and "You really shouldn't be taking all those painkillers." I'm now more of a drain on systems than I would have been if people had just listened in the first place. I'm let down by the fact that I can put my boots on the right feet (sometimes at the first try, as well!), and my background employment history means I can use the correct technical terminology... 'cursed with intelligence' as the Welfare Rights Advocate phrased it.

I'm not going all Verruca Salt, I don't want "the whole world", I just want to be as functional as I can be- that would be BETTER for the NHS than constantly shuffling me around departments, and taking up time that might be better allocated to other people. What do I know? It's only me living this life.

Pat, have you previously met this doctor ? I'm wondering why you don't want to see him. If it's a GP surgery you should be able to see a different GP though it might involve a wait until they have a free appointment slot. x

It’s my first time seeing him and he saw me out in the resection area in front of the other people. And he is telling me read this it will tell you etc etc why he can’t give me traveling meds . Then he says if you have anxiety!!!!!! He can see me. I’m seeing him on Wednesday morning.

It was his tone talking to me in reception no privacy and I felt really flipping uncomfortable his a professional 🤮

Maybe give him once chance to see whether his brusque attitude was his usual approach or the norm. Even so, if he's a good practitioner, it might be worth 'turning the other cheek' !

I was warned that a cardiologist I was due to see was offhand and one to be avoided ; he turned out to have a very direct, no-nonsense manner but I stuck to him 'til he retired as his treatment of my condition was superb.

You're quite entitled to make an appointment with a different doctor stating you don't want to see that particular one. But try not to take these attitudes personally Pat ; it would be great if people were trained in politeness but it's not always the case. 😠 xx

I'm sorry you've had a bad first experience, Pat-rick1 reading through the thread, having a discussion with you in the open reception area was really inappropriate. As cat3 has mentioned, it might be worth 'giving a second chance', BUT most GP practices will accept people switching around the available options, and not ask for a reason. (Entirely up to you whether you give your reason/raise a complaint.)

My surgery has an online booking system, so I just scroll through the appointments, avoiding the doctors who have been less-than-helpful, until I find a slot with the doctor who actually listens to me.

Ya I saw my doctor yesterday I was will prepared in the right state of mind .we went over what I should take and shouldn’t. I had trouble understanding him as his accent was strong. Anyway I get them only to find out they are antidepressants. Not what I was after. I wanted something for traveling maybe this stuff does the same -Citalopram- anyways I’ll do research and find out

I had a difficult GP and switched to a different doctor. The practice I’m at let you request to book with whichever doctor you’d like to see or tell you who’s available when you book.

I couldn’t see that same GP ever again, she wasn’t kind or helpful sadly. I understand!

I came in sat down and then outa no where a woman walks in gets some cups walks out leaving the door open behind her.im trying to listen to the doctor this door is open there is a fan beside me.shall I close the door for privacy doctor I say 😡. And I can’t understand him I asking him to repeat.as you know he gives me the wrong medicine
