Today marks 5 years since my radio-surgery, I got the all clear last February 😁.. most people I have spoken to had to have a second go under the gamma knife. I feel so lucky to get the all clear after the first attempt as I wouldn’t want the have the head frame fitted again (it wasn’t painful, just didn’t like it😳)
Radiosurgery : Today marks 5 years since my radio... - Headway
Radiosurgery
Great result Wazza ! Onwards & upwards...…….. 😃 xx
Gettin the all clear was the best feeling 😁
Mine was a different branch of radiotherapy (secondary prevention after breast cancer) but, after initial apprehension, I ended up actually enjoying my 3 week treatment and seeing that marvellous machine as my guardian angel. And the nursing staff were amazing...….it was like a family parting on the final day...…….everyone hugging and with the odd tear !
On the Bi front, it seems I was fortunate in having an accessible burst aneurism which could be immediately coiled intravenously. I think it was Ben (B_S_A) who first introduced me to the Gamma Knife treatment and I remember thinking 'How clever !' Really pleased for you Wazza ! xx
My first treatment got rid of 95% of avm had to do it again for 5%
My all clear was after one trip to the Hallam in Sheffield, I had no idea first time was very good.
I know what you mean about the 'cage', I was sure my skull was going to impload.
After that the tube moving through your vein is a pretty weird sensation.
Then boredom in the 'tube', I fell asleep.
I thought the nurses there were fantastic, I had a good laugh with them.
The all clear was nice as well.
Glad you’re all clear 😁
Yea the nurses were a great team I only remember a radiologist called Jo and a radiologist called Dean.. I was only in “the tube” 48 minuets but still fell asleep, I’m told 45 mins is pretty quick.
4 hours, the radiologist was complaining about me snoring during half of that, I can't remember names just their smiles.
Gamma Knife is great as it's none invasive but the wait for the all clear is the downside, in fact I had a second bleed after the treatment.
The doctors said I could have a scan after 2 years but something could still be showing so I said I’d rather wait longer and got the all clear 😁
I think a scan at 2 and all clear at 4 years for me. I believe it unusual but those scans gave me a blinding pain, first time I thought it was a another hemorrhage.
I had the same thing when they did the scan at the Hallam, it was funny because I panicked and the anesthetist said "Sorry I forgot to say some people do experience that", I'm just lucky I guess.
I didn’t experience any pain via the scan, the only pain was when the head frame was screwed into my head before the radio surgery 😳
Did you leave with a photo of your head in a cage, unfortunately that along with the scans they gave me seem to be lost.
I should say to any reader waiting this procedure, it's a doddle, apart from the wait.
Great news that you only had to have one go. Good for you.
