Brain Death and recovery with Deep Brain Stimulation

In March 1983 I was a victim of a Hit and deny responsibility attack by an insane motorist who was driving way too fast. My brain apparently had died and the NHS staff at Plymouth Freedom Fields hospital were about to turn off the life support machine.

Only thanks to the intervention of my loving parents Enid and Michael and my little sister Caroline did I survive and "wake up" after a month long coma.

I am still awaiting DWP help and support. This post is to inspire every TBI family to never give up and keep on claiming what you have been denied. I am owed 35 years of benefits (minus a few years of child benefit that they did pay during the Gordon Brown years) there was never justice for my family as they suffered financial hardship and still do. My wife Eva is in need and I hope Headway will help me get in touch with the DWP and a lawyer. I have asked Andrew for help.

Thank you for reading my posts and Good Luck with your DWP claims!

Thank you very much. Please could you request the helpline to email us when they have time and resources to help us. We do understand you are busy and we would also like to volunteer to help more when we are both in the UK again in Bournemouth.

Thank you very much for your help.

Regular problem with DWP. I get nothing even though I can't work. Not fair on my partner.

Very true, it is especially difficult for partners and family. I am deeply in debt to my friends and owe a huge amount of money. Headway are helping me backdate my DWP claims to 1983 when the incident happened. We also sold our old house in Croyde, it is worth over 500,000 pounds now all lost because of my TBI and the failure of Police to properly follow up the road incident investigation. The reckless idiot on the Ford Fiesta who hit me ought to have gone to jail too.

Only by getting tough with Road Criminals can we reduce the incidence of TBI in the UK.

In my experience when a CAB is funded to give specialist Welfare Benefit advice it will at least meet the service from a solicitor.

In fact when Legal Aid contracts were first given to the voluntary sector I was personally told it was because the best advice came from that source. But then Legal Aid was removed from most Benefit, Employment, Housing and Money Advice matters, hence less chance of your CAB and other agencies being able to provide it now.

Access to justice despite your means, is for me a fundamental principle of English law, but that was another place.

OMG having said that and thinking it was around 93 - 95 I've been doing this work for around 37 years rather than the 20 I put somewhere else, that's scary.
