Hi all. My hubby is 47 and was relatively healthy prior to his open heart sx on 4-20-18. Upon sedation wearing off he began having seizures. He was placed in a medically induced coma for 2 wks during which time the valve he had replaced had pathology and tested positive for histoplasmosis. This fungal infection is bad as are all the drugs. He was brought out of coma on 5-4 and that weekend we got smiles and on command hand squeezes. He has since remained unresponsive except to pain stimuli. He opens his eyes when spoken to but no eye tracking. He moves and improves physically daily. His vitals are mostly stable and many days is feverless (had nonstop fever from 4-10 when he went to ER).
The neurologist "suspects" a lack of O2 during sx though CTs are normal. Cardio said everything went normal. Cant do MRI due to pacemaker. The drs make it seem hopeless but reading these stories give me strength to fight for him.
Any shares, ideas etc would be appreciated.
Thank you
