Gp problems

I went to see my GP the other day for a medication review and he wants me to stop all my pain relief. I have 6 brain aneurysms had one stented and one coiled. The surgeon only wants to operate again if one bursts. I still have pain most days from minor to major. The doctor saying this has frightened me. The thought of living without anything scares me and honestly I'm not sure I want live a life of pain. I just want to be happy. Any advice would help thank you

There has been quite a lot of research recently that has shown that constantly taking painkillers is counter-productive and they can make the pain worse. Give it a try, see what happens. Try meditation or yoga to learn have to relax. You might find you feel a lot better without meds.

Thank you for your reply, I have already tried a few years ago. I had to cut out all medication, caffeine, processed foods, alcohol, changed to soy milk and replaced all dariy with soy. I ended up in hospital as I kept passing out. I also used hypnosis which did help short term but over time I just don't have the patience and concentration. I'm doing a little research online now so I might find something thanks again

What reason did your GP give, i cannot take ibuprofen because of the impact it may have on my liver, i take pregabalin for my pressure headaches, this was prescribed by the consultant i had in rehab.

I asked to be referred back to him when my GP said he couldnt think of a medication to help with those headaches.

The consultant was only too happy to see me and now im pressure headache free.

Try asking for a second opinion.

He doesn't want me to get addicted to anything, I don't either I just want to be able to at least try live my life. I asked many times for pregabalin but refused. It took me 18 to get anything stronger than co codamol now he wants me to stop it. I've been doing some research so I will try get to see another GP. I feel like I'm being punished for the people who take prescription drugs for a high. Sorry don't mean to go on, thanks for your reply and advice much appreciated xx

You might consider researching CBD oil. It is a powerful anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective pain killer and comes from a plant (cannabis, no! don't be put off, it's non-psychoactive and legal in the UK). Get a reputable make with available third party lab tests to prove purity and reliability, if you choose to try it. All my doctors know that I use it, including the neuro I went to see yesterday about unusual 'stroke-like' migraines. Pharma meds can't mend me so I'm trying the natural way, and with pleasing success.

Thank you for the information I will definitely be looking in to it. I'm willing to try anything. The only time I'm pain free is when I go see my dad abroad which a is always a good month xx

Thank you for your reply, I'm looking in to it now. I'll try anything rather than getting hooked on amitriptyline again. The hardest 8 months of my life coming off the drug xx

Hi cat

If you have pains in your head where do you rub the oil?

The oil is normally used sublingually Anders. It's a matter of gradual testing of what dose suits you, so it's best to try one drop under the tongue three times daily, increasing after a few days if that's not helping or reducing if it's making you drowsy. But if you look on the CBD brothers site (link shown above) and follow the headings you'll see all the options.

It can take a while to get the dosage right, to the point where you can vary it according to pain level, but many people give up too early when they don't get immediate relief ; it isn't like standard painkillers as it works more gradually like most other natural remedies.

Best wishes, Cat x

Pain is paid to the individual. If your Gp would like you to come off your pain killers maybe you can negotiate coming off them slowly do ? One at a time over a specific time schedule, as an ex cancer nurse we would try to reduce pain killers over a time period not stop them all together as the body is use to having relief from your pain killers so you need to find out which one is helping with your pain. Different pain killers prevent certain types of pain as you know so you need to find the one that works for your pain so you may be able to get rid of some. You will never know by not trying.

Best of luck
