Dawny, how recent was your accident and did it result in a bleed to the brain ?
It was January 18th. I had a occipital subjural haematoma andoccipital fracture. Since them im dizzy which subsided but returned afew days, all i can taste and smell is a horrendous sensation made worse by a clear liquid that runs down my nose and the back of my throat casing a drowning feeling and am unable to eat because of it. Saw e.n.t specialist who treated me for vertigo which lasted a fortnight and was given a steroid spray for up my nose which has made it worse. My head is fuzzy tender and sore even when untouched. At the end of my tether xx
I do empathise with your symptoms Dawn, but two months is really early days for any meaningful healing progress.
My first symptom(even before the bleed) was distorted smell & taste. I'd read that it could signal brain issues but my GP dismissed the idea and gave me nasal drops ; 2 months later I had the SAH.
Now, 6 years later, the taste & smell issue has prevailed but to a lesser degree and I hardly think about it. But the nasal drip is still an issue (I have saline & steroid sprays which, as you say, don't have much effect but I learned to cope better with after 6 months or so.
Also the dizziness is something most of us learn to manage, though there are treatments (Stemetil or other meds which can help, but need to be compatible with other meds such as heart & seizure meds) and procedures (such as Epley manoeuver) which have worked for some.
Please give yourself more time m'dear. I know two months will feel like forever but brain injury is a very different issue from any other health issue and needs months/often years to stabilise (and get the hang of).
All best wishes for better days ahead, Cat x
Hi dawny sorry to hear about your fall. In early months after a bi you can feel all manner of different things quite intensely. I didn't have smell and taste issues but do suffer with noise intolerance. However it has improved.
Are you having any treatment since your fall? X
Only by e.n.t specialist whose treatments were short lived. Neuro dept can't see me till may x
Hi Dawn
My son had a SAH brain haemorrhage almost 7 years ago and for a while he said everything smelled funny which put him off lots of foods. This was because of the location of the bleed.
I can't remember how long it took but this passed and he has no issues with things smelling strange now.
Hope things improve for you. Try to be patient, it's very early days for you x
Thank you for your reply, I'm so glad your son is much better.
