CSF leak

I have a mucocele that attached itself to my dura and althought the mucocele itself has been drained (twice now), they can't remove it. A complication is that it has punctured the dura now so I'm leaking CSF and I need an operation to patch it.

Just wondered if there's anyone here that has had a similar problem who I could talk to.

Sorry Phil, it looks (up to now) like none of us has experience of this issue. A more common issue is swelling of the brain after a brain injury requiring a shunt to relieve the pressure.

Have you thought of phoning the Headway helpline ? They'll be familiar with this problem, and happy to answer any questions you have about the procedure. The number is 0808 800 2244 (free calls--office hours).

Fingers crossed for more informative replies than this one, and best wishes for the best possible outcome with your surgery. Cat x

Hi Phil,

I had a CSF leak from my nose when I fractured my skull. The 'patching' op was explained to me at the time of the leak and I had prepared myself for having it...then it healed itself whilst I was in hospital. So I know a slight bit of information on the op just from what was explained to me at the time. When are you due to have it repaired?

It seems he already had Grapple and they directed him here & to another forum. I think people can feel embarrassed if replies aren't forthcoming straight away ; shame really as it's often a while before others can look in and respond.

How're you doing m'love ; have you managed to get out much recently ? x

I hope he finds support from somewhere at least.

I'm going through a bad patch at the moment...I'm coming up to a year since my accident and I still can't do much before getting so tired that I have to sleep. Work are also in the process of getting rid of me due to my symptoms not improving. I've been told it'll be 3-4 years for a possible recovery and I haven't improved much in the first year. I'm sure there are lots of people on here in a much worse situation but I do feel as though my whole life has been turned upside down and the future is not looking great or going to plan out how I thought it would.

Sorry, you've caught me at a low time and I have gone on a bit too much! I hope you are doing well 😊
