My 27yr old son suffered a traumatic brain injury 5 months ago following a quad bike accident. He has speech issues and right sided weakness but is making slow progress. He is still troubled by incontinence. Can anyone help with suggestions?

Helping with incontinence
Try asking for a referal to an enuris nurse, whi should be able to help
Jane, brain injury apparently causes varying degrees of urinary incontinence in over 50% of patients. It can be detected in the brain area responsible in an MRI scan.
I suggest you phone the Headway helpline, on Monday, for more specialised and detailed information on possible treatment/therapy. Their number is 0808 800 2244 (office hours - free calls).
I only suffered with this problem for a couple of months, whilst still hospitalised, but after the catheter was removed and I was encouraged to take over control, it gave me a taste of what a disruptive and demoralising issue it is.
Best wishes ; I hope your son will find the help he needs. Cat x
Hi Jane, I had to retrain myself. I used the knowledge I had from training all my children.
It is demoralising, and I still need to be aware of where the toilet facilities are when I go out and visit the toilet about every 2 hours, more frequently if I drinkk too much. That's another thing, being aware of how much I drink being sure to remain hydrated!!
None of this was necessary pre BI
