Hiya everyone, just hopping online really quickly to ask for a bit of advice to see if anyone has any experience of this or advice?
This is quite a private post so I hope it is ok....
My husband has is able to go to the loo etc by himself but recently has been smelling of urine and wetting his trousers a little. I honestly dont mind and I help him with his personal hygeine, washing etc and clean changes of clothes...I just wondered if it is worth mentioning to our gp? I am also just wondering if he is not registering if he has finished at the loo properly or not? I encourage him to wait and finish properly but I notice it more if I am not there to prompt him?
Thanks for reading
Much Love

I know this is a sensitive subject and one I have wrestled with myself.
I am fine now but really had to retrain myself in theses matters. It was never broached not even in rehab there were occasions when one or other of us would disappear because we had to go and change ourselves because we had " had an accident".
I found that at first I couldn't go far from a toilet because when I had to go I had to go right before hen, there was no waiting or holding it, that was just too difficult to do. But by all means mention it to your GP. There may be help they can suggest.

Has he had his wee tested by GP to make sure he hasn't got a urine infection to rule that out. It also could be as you describe that he isn't sufficiently aware to know if he has fully emptied his bladder and so leaks into his pants. Might be worth speaking to the GP about Hubbies problem to find out if there is any other way he can be helped. I was a bit leaky for a while as a consequence of being catherterised for 4 weeks when in coma.
Hi Maria, my husband also has a hypoxic brain injury and he also does the same thing as he is unaware when he's finished and i also have to prompt him. I think it must be what happens after a brain injury he hasn't got much control. Might be worth having a word with the gp and they can refer him to the a specialist nurse that deals with bladder problems and she maybe able to help you. Hope this helps.
Hi, I had tbi last year. I too suffer as above. But, this did not start for me until I started taking medication for blood clots. It may be a side effect from medication
