My husband has his operation on Monday and his face is numb and swollen on the right side. I want to know if anyone else experience this?

Hi again desire. I don't have personal experience of cranioplasty but I've watched the procedure on Youtube and read quite a bit about it. All accounts describe swelling and tenderness for a couple of weeks after the op. (understandable when you consider what's involved).

I hope you'll get replies from others with direct experience, but I suggest you also contact the Headway helpline where you can get official printed information on your husband's surgery and details of what to expect during his recovery.

I hope your man will feel an improvement soon and, meanwhile, manage his pain and other discomfort with maximum pain relief until it begins to subside.

All best wishes, Cat x

Hi Desire,

From personal experience, yes this is normal, at least in my case. it is still very early days if the operation took place this week. I presume they've given your husband anti-inflammatories or steroids to bring the swelling down. Many of the steroids used can give the face a 'puffy' appearance.

My surgeon told me that if I had any concerns I should call his receptionist and ask for him to call me, did you get anything similar from yours? Are you able to contact them?

Hi, I had 2 cranioplasty ops in 2006 and 2007, I had swelling for ages after them. Hope your husband makes a full recovery.
