Essential oils and brain injury
Hi Matt.. got a few pop ups there when I clicked on but then managed to read the article. Very interesting thanks..
I find lavender and eucalyptus really soothing oils. I had a lavender pillow for a while also and found it helped me to sleep.
hope you are ok.Nan x
Hi Nan,
I'm fine thank you, hope you are well too :).
Those pop ups can be very annoying.
I haven't tried much eucalyptus oil but your right about lavender, it is a calming/soothing oil. And like you say, it helped with your sleep. My mum swears by it. Years ago she used to use lavender a lot, she would spray it on her pillow and it would knock her out when she would go to sleep :).
She has a little trouble with her back every now and then and when it flares up she rubs lavender oil on her back, it is great for any aches and pains.
I've had tendonitis in the past and rubbed lavender on it. Cured it. Better than using pharmaceutical ointment.
Take care,
MJ
Hi, I was thinking of getting some Frankincense to use added to water in an oil burner for my husband who had a stroke last year. I've just been doing some research trying to find a good supplier and preferably not too expensive.
I came across information on the mercola website which says that Frankincense has an anticoagulant effect and may create a higher risk of bleeding if you're taking anticoagulant medication. My husband takes Clopidogrel, which I believe is an antiplatelet medication. I'm confused about this, what's the difference between anticoagulant and antiplatelet? It seems they are both to prevent clotting but in different ways. Now I'm not sure if it's OK to use Frankincense or not.
I emailed Tisserand about it and they suggested asking our doctor which I thought they would do. Not sure if he would know anything about Frankincense though.
Anyone know anything about this? Thanks in advance.
Hi Ruby,
I can't answer your question but I can offer my opinion on medication. I won't touch any form of man-made medication now. Nature is medicine and always has been medicine. I'm not too hot on doctors really, I would rather keep as far as possible from them really.
Whenever or wherever money is involved I don't completely trust it.
Talk to RecoveringH about this issue. She would know more than I do about it. I am a simpleton who was under pharmaceutical drugs and so but has come away from all that crap now and never felt better :).
Life should be simple but too many people complicate it.
Hi. I have been using essential oils for aromatherapy prior to brain injury. It really helped though I found it is hard to get them in the uk at least where i live. I had to ask my parents to send me some by post as they are easy to get in any pharmacy. I think bergamot and rosemary are my favorite. Eucaliptus and lavendar are common for many things but the rosemary seems to help with mood.
Hi,
I'm glad you found essential oils helped you and that is a shame you can't get them so easily. You can get essential oils from Holland & Barrett, I am about a bus ride away from one but I do also purchase oils online. Here are a few names of suppliers; Denise Brown, Naissance, NHR.
Personally I would not buy essential oils from a pharmacy.
As I said before, I do not trust pharmacies. Wherever lots of money is being made, I don't trust it.
I know you say it helps you and that is a good thing but for me, I wouldn't touch them.
Pharmacies in poland are these old style ones usually where you can get all the organic herbs, herbal teas etc. So i know the oils are 100% ones. Thank you for the names of rpoviders here,
No problem :).
You are quite lucky to have old style pharmacies then, in UK, pharmacies have changed, for the worse I think.
America is where it all stemmed from and UK are not too far behind.
I remember when I was little, any kind of medicine (cough syrup and the like) used to taste absolutely vile but it did the trick. These days those medicines are packed with sugar. Yes, it sweetens the taste and makes it more appealing to the consumers but sugar is not good for your health.
