Hi all I had a TBI from a fall in Oct, as well as fracturing my skull, I had a fracture running through my inner ear which has left me deaf in my left ear with Tinnitus. Has Anybody else got tinnitus in a deaf ear ? and got any advise please.

Hi New on here, with Tinitus driving me mad
I don't have any deafness but have been plagued by tinnitus since suffering a burst eardrum 30 years ago. I've seen specialists over the years, but it seems no one has any answers other than masking the sounds with more pleasant ones.
I often think how wonderful it must be to enjoy complete silence, but dwelling on that too much is just a wind-up. It can be depressing when I'm trying to sleep, or just want to sit and rest, with the awful cacophony of 'industrial' noises going on in my head.
I try sometimes to imagine there's a howling gale outside with torrential rain, in an attempt to interpret the sound as something external & normal ; sometimes it helps & other times not.
I know there are various CDs you can buy with a variety of sounds such as jungle/storms/electronic music for masking purposes ??
I wish I could help more...........sorry ; I really do feel for you Mjy. Cat x
Hi Cat, thanks for you reply I've been told about masking it, but I don't know how it will work with being deaf in the ear I get Tinnitus in, I'm hoping ENT maybe able or point me in a direction.
Its bad enough losing my hearing, but to replace it with as you quoted industrial noise is sole destroying.
I live in hope,
Thanks again x
My tinnitus got substantially worse after my concussion. I don't have any hearing issues other than that. It tends to get worse the tireder I get. I think it's a common symptom of a head injury.
My TBI started the same way with a fracture (on the right side ) that tore the meninges and shattered the cochlear . My balance was affected very badly . Over the last years my left ear also has tinnitus , However , I put it behind me , because I had too much on my mind , so I virtually don't notice it unless it comes up in conversation . I'd try my best to put up with it and you won't notice it after a while . Good luck .
Thanks Daveeb, hope your right its relatively a new injury 3 months so fingers crossed.
Hi mjy and welcome.
A referral to audiology may be the way to go but you might have to wait until after the ent appointment. Talking of which ask for the referral if you aren't offered it before you leave the ENT appointment.
