Well I was being chased by local pharmacies for a while and eventually did place my prescription with one on a repeat basis
However, my GP surgery has one of the partners on the local commissioning group whatever their official title is.
Just before Christmas patients on automatic repeats had a letter saying that the automatic repeats were being stopped via the pharmacies and we had to order directly from the GP again.
This was apparently due to the fact that patients were getting repeat prescriptions for all sorts of things when they did not really need a repeat. Therefore it would save a lot of money if the GP vetted each prescription as re presentedto them by the patient.
Is this what you mean Random? Perhaps GPs are trying to save money near you?
Incidentally, I went and got my repeat from the GP only to find that when I got home someone at the GP's had stapled another patients prescription to mine and this lady, from looking at her meds, had chronic mental health difficulties.
Great patient confidentiality eh?, I rang the surgery and was asked to shred it and not take it round to the patients house......or return it to the surgery..
Sorry Random, i got the wrong end of the stick there, hope you are ok as can be x
I think maybe you mean these internet pharmacies that seem to be everywhere now. Our local pharmacy asks us not to sign up with these people. They say that they aren't particularly reliable, not as trained as people in the shops and that if we all sign with them our local chemists will close and there will be no one to ask about medical problems.
I've used them once or twice when not able to get a doctor's appointment and when I know what the issue is (UTI for instance) but haven't had any problems with them bombarding me with emails. Or maybe they did for a while and then I unsubscribed, I can't remember. Generally I make a point of using the local pharmacy - as noted by someone else below they are under funding pressures (just like the rest of the NHS, like us, it's all creaking....) so I try to support them because pharmacists are great at answering queries. And you don't have to make an appointment in 3 weeks time to get them to talk to you!
HI. I have used Pharmacy2u a couple of times now with no problems. I find them very convenient as I work full-time and struggle to get to a pharmacy to pick up prescriptions.
