One Year on Today. Wow what a journey.

Hi All,

I wanted to just express my gratitude here for all your help one year on. Yes can't believe it myself. May the 16th 2015 at around 12:10pm my life changed at the time for the worst, frightened, lonely, scared, confused (understatement) loss of emotion and the ability to love, trying to reason with ME. The moto cross accident was one of the worst on the track not for physical injuries but for mental ones, I hit my head on the back and the brain hit the front of my scull causing 3 brain bleeds and I was out for 4.08 minutes. These figures and stats are part of my recovery as they are the only figures and words that really went in and stayed there.

I have spent a year well 9 months trying to reason with me and my brain to understand what happened and why it happened and God to try and understand my thinking. Its taken a while and I'm not there yet but I'm a work in progress and I will get there. I posted a thread last week about being an alcoholic and the recovery for that too which is so so similar to brain injury. I received a fantastic reply by Neil who has never replied or posted that I have seen before and Iv been stuck to his website all weekend - braininjuryftp.com.

Thank you Neil for your honesty and words.

For me the "Foundations of Sand" and the "Bizarre" make perfect sense, I'm getting to grips with the "wheres your head at" and "all a bit traumatic" as its a bit complicated for me (bi excuse) but looking forward to reading it all again tonight. The whole site is a revelation to me as iv never read anything that explains what iv gone and still going through. Words are such a fantastic medium and Finding The Positives is really helping me to understand the brain.

My point with the is that I would never had got this reply if:

A. I hadn't joined this forum 10 weeks after my injury, took me a while to just join and post.

B. been totally honest about myself on here as I was fighting that one for a while, (6 months)

So pleased I did as its been a life saver.

In conclusion life is so precious and it can change on a heart beat (sorry for the cliché) mine did but now its for the better well in some ways. We rode MX yesterday, same track and we have a lot this year and my ability has so improved and is better than what it was this time last year, we all have improved. All of this life stuff is due to good people helping me and my family, especially Headway Newick Park and my councillor. Life is really good but I have my bad and good days like all of us but with faith, hope and a lot of chat we can all get there.

Have a fantastic week people and God Bless You. Nick XX

Thank you people. I don't see it as being proud just getting on with life on life's terms. Onwards and upwards.

Nick

I think you're doing brilliantly, I didn't know about the forum until 18 months after my accident and even though I don't post often, it feels like such a lifeline. You know it's not going to be easy, but as you say onwards and upwards. Good for you.

Have a great week

Sue
