A year on....

A year after my husbands accident, my son decided to write a blog about our experience. I thought it may ring bells with a few, and possibly bring a little hope to some.

Thank you for sharing Leon's blog with us. Such a nightmare time to have to go through and at the time the impact on your all was tremendous. So wonderful to hear that your husband has healed so well and put into perspective with all the other possible outcome the loss of taste and smell is manageable.

Best wishes to you all

You must be so proud of your warrior husband fighting through it all. Stories such as these provide hope and inspiration for others. There was clearly a lot of support and love from yourself and your son which I'm sure contributed to his recovery.

Thanks for sharing.

Best.

A wonderful story, my TBI after being hit by a car also hit my family and reading this reminded me of their strength and willpower, I'm happy because he has made a very good recovery, I too have anosmia, no smell or taste, I am trying four scented oils, eucalyptus, rose, lemon and cloves, Dr Hummel had 30% of his trial recover their senses in that direction, I am just two weeks in with it now but will keep going, if your husband tried it too he could well be one of the ones who get theirs back as well. Best wishes to you all.

Very interested in trying the scented oils, how do you use them. Is it as bath or massage oils ( he might enjoy that too much, Ha ha ).

Thanks for your reply.

Hi, well according to what I have found about the study the participants just had a small bottle of the oil and they had to sniff all four in the morning and at night. I've been trying for 4 weeks now, I still have absolutely no taste but smell is becoming weird, I get something but not how I remember it or how it's described to me. I know I'm 7 months on from my injury but the test group ran for a very long period . For me no smell is about a loss of safety, I can't smell gas or burning, this is worrying to me, I see no reason ever to drink alcohol, but it's the loss of the aroma of flowers, perfume and all the other senses that is frustrating. The reaction of others to your loss of smell and taste is hard, they think it;s just like losing a plaster on a splinter....so, I will keep on trying and if I find anything else I will get it on the board. Good luck.
