Well, time has come, starting new job next week and absolutely terrified. Not sleeping, feeling sick etc etc. has anyone got advice on relaxation or sleeping? My mind is racing and I am feeling exhausted without actually doing anything

Hi - knowing that I was as prepared as I could be -where I was going, what I would be doing - even down to what I would wear and take for lunch was important for me .

I also went into the office on an unofficial basis a couple of times for quick cuppa/catch up and just to see the office/sit on my chair. Anything like that possible/helpful ?

Also I did as much exercise as I could muster - even just walking ... but also swimming and cycling just to keep myself as fit as possible. I also do yoga and have a great cd for relaxation. There may be something useful in that for you ?

Good luck

K

Congratulations on your new job and don't forget to breathe :-) Fear is just excitement without the breathe. Good luck.

Hi. Yes trying to look forward to that day will help if possible!!! Yoga type classes/home will help things as well. You will be fine you have done the hard work by getting the job in the 1st place. Look forward to the day not worried. This all sounds hard but it will make a big difference believe me!! I hope this helps??

Steve.

Listening to relaxing music, meditation, rest, short nature walks, recall pleasant experiences. At least these work for me to relax and have better sleep. Best of luck with your new job, relaxing and sleep.

Lots of great ideas. How about visualising or imagine the best possible first day at the new job? How exciting! Imagine going home at the end of the day feeling great and excited about day 2. Research shows visualising successful performance repeated helps top sportsmen achieve. Good luck.

Brilliant news about your job but yes, completely understand your worries. I hate change and new things since my ABI, bit of a fan of the familiar and the routine now but this an exciting next step for you and I`m sure you will soon feel right at home there. Definitely rest over the weekend, give yourself loads of time to get there, have some breakfast and then give yourself a pat on the back at the end of your first day. Good luck x

Listen to this: youtube.com/watch?v=5kWo8N4...

and this: rainymood.com/ at the same time before hand. Calms me down before exams or a lacrosse game.

And just remind yourself that it could be much worse; as bad as it was just after the stroke! (That's what works for me)

Hi Jaec,

Well done on your new job thats fantastic. I too have problems sleeping some nights are fine and others not so good. Just remember it will pass and you will get into a sleep routine. I have found thinking about what I enjoy doing helps me sleep, riding and reflecting on my day helps me. Try and think about what relaxes you and the thoughts you had when you were sleeping. Also reading helps too. Hope you sleep better soon. N
