I have had a brain Injury just over a year and a half ago. I have been depressed in that time. And I have now been put on anti depressants, I took them last night and I woke up this morning feeling sick and a really bad tummy. Is this normal?
Anti depressant pills: I have had a brain Injury... - Headway
Anti depressant pills
important to eat while taking anti depressants and lots of water stick to dosage religiously have you questionewd your gp
Antidepressants take at lest two weeks to start working and in that time you may get any of the side effects stated on the contraindications leaflet, but give them a chance before saying they are not working, the hospital I was in put me on anti depressants as part of my treatment I think they knew I'd need them and that was 18 months ago I've reduced them to 3 a week now, just to keep the safety net going, hang on in there they do have a use, good luck x
Okay I'm on the 10mg at the moment cause she said she wants to see if I'm okay after having them for 2 weeks then put the dose up. And she did say something about side effects, but I didn't think it would happen straight away. She said it might make you feel sick and have a bad tummy
Thankyou kirk5w7 atelast I know now I was really worried. X
Please don't worry,Jess.Antidepressants really can be difficult to assimilate and they always have side effects.........some worse than others. As kirk has explained, your body needs time to adjust & that can take a week or two (or more). However, if after two weeks the symptoms persist, you could ask your doctor to prescribe a different one.
Whichever one you use there will be initial side effects but I've used them for most of my life and found that the benefits definitely outweigh the negatives, although I do,now, take the lowest possible dose. Good luck & hope you start to feel better soon. xx
Sorry to hear you're unhappy
Yeah anti-depressants make you feel sick for a while. But in my opinion, I'd stop taking them and see a councillor. You have a an actual reason to be unhappy, and I don't think pills will solve that problem.
Of course, talk to a doctor first
Thankyou both I'm on citalopram tablets. She's going to asses me in 2 weeks, so if I feel ill I will go back and say to her how I feel.
And I'm having counselling aswell. I had counselling when I first come out of hospital then it stopped. And now I'm having it again. So hopefully they will both stop me from being suicidal x
I've been there! Hang on in there Jess, there's still a world out there, I promise.
Take your time, assess the problems, and relax.
I'm pulling for you, if you don't mind me asking, what kind of problems has the injury left you with?
Hi Jess, I had a frontal lobe injury 12 months ago and am suffering really similar cognitive problems and fatigue. I have recently been prescribed Citalopram but I'm reluctant to take it ...My motivation is at an all time low/apathy and I'm scared that taking the drug will make me feel even more tired and more "flat" or won't help the flatness. What were your experiences of taking it ? Did it actually help? Did it make you feel worse? Did the nausea settle? Wishing you the best with your recovery. Thanks x
I was left with swelling and brushing on my brain and a fracture on my skull. But I didn't need a operation. I now have a hidden brain Injury, I have no problem with walking talking dressing washing. I damaged my right frontal lobe so I have to deal with all the cognitive problems. I have been off work since it happend.
I felt a bit blessed to still have all my limbs in tact, that and my vision is only ever so slightly impaired (visual cut to the right, other than that everything is clear), it's good to hear that you're physically ok, so start with that. I wouldn't call it "lucky" but we both got away with it.
I had my stroke on 02/03/2012, so that's around the same time as you. What kind of cognitive problems have you got?
I have depression and very bad fatigue, I'm tired every day after seeing my support worker for 3 hours. And also tired from working at my chairty shop for 3 hours. And that's only 2 times a week, I get tired from doing any cleaning. And I get headaches nearly everyday. Other than that I suffer from sharp pains in my fingers, and dull pains in my arms and pins and needles in my legs sometimes.
Thankyou. and the pains seem to be getting worse. But hopefully they will reduce down.
