Hysterectomy in 11 days and counting......

Well I am booked in for my surgery 24th May, Laparoscopic hysterectomy, removing EVERYTHING including cervix. God bless the NHS, they have got me in within 4 weeks of seeing the consultant after failed hysteroscopy. Got my Pre-Op next week, been told I will go into a surgical menopause immediately. I am nervous as to what I will be like post surgery and how the HRT will affect me but friends have said HRT (oestrogen only) is the BEST thing ever so fingers crossed .

Hi icedjem, good luck for the 24th. I had a total hysterectomy in Feb 2015 and was amazed how quickly I recovered surgically. The hysterectomy was easier than the hysteroscopy I had cancer of the left ovary and uterus. Of course with being 63 I didn't have to consider HRT. When the consultant came to see me the morning after the op he asked how much pain I was in, the answer was none and he commented how little pain relief I had had. You are lucky to be seen so quickly as I had the hysteroscopy in Sept and had to wait 5 months for the hysterectomy. Which NHS trust are you in?

Hi there. I come under Worcestershire trust. Got to say I was impressed at how thorough they have been and the speed in which they booked my surgery x

I am with Morecambe bay trust. Have u been told your expected length of stay in hospital. I went in Monday at 11am the op started at 2.30 and ended 5.30. Back to ward at 6.30 and hubby came to normal visiting time at 7pm. Came home the next day at 2pm. Slept normally and normal appetite from day 1. Looking back now, although it is only natural I realise how much I worried beforehand and the op was not as bad as I was building it up to be. You do need to rest to build your strength back afterwards. The consultant told me 2 weeks off your feet and back to normal in 6 but my actual recovery time was shorter, what I found the hardest was not driving for 6 weeks

Hi icedjem, I am glad you have made the decision about your hysterectomy. I have been to the other hospital last week, was very impressed and was told it is okay to keep my ovaries, so that is what I am going to do being only 41. They said they will keep an eye on it, so I hope they do, else I might just remind them. I haven't got a date yet for the hysterectomy and they are just awaiting results of my biopsy to decide which team will operate. The NHS do look after patients and have a lot of people that care(unsung heroes), and except for one consultant's attitude, I am so grateful for the treatment and care I received from them. My aunt had hysterectomy at 38 and she used HRT in the form of an implant, but she is now in her 60's and have stopped using it. She said she never had any problems after the operation and felt like a new women, having had endometriosis. Before you know it your operation will be all done and you will be recovering.

Hello. Well I came out of hospital today. Total laporoscopic hysterectomy. Was in theatre longer than expected as unfortunately suffered some bladder trauma during op and they had to get another surgeon to do bladder repair. Also needed a drain in which was removed last night however now got to spend the next 2 weeks catheterised 😢. Then go back to hospital for tests to see if bladder has been affected permanently. So other than bladder issue, and having a very stiff back due to them also doing a spinal block with the GA, feel ok ish. Just very very tired 😴

Glad you are okay. Sorry to hear about your bladder. Just take it easy for the next 2 weeks until you see them so that you can heal. And follow their instructions. I hope it all gets sorted for you, for sure

Hi icedjem, how are you feeling now? I hope your bladder is how it was before and you are feeling a lot better. I have mine booked in for July
