Hi,

Following a reduction in my T3 and T4 from Carbimazole - and Dr saying move to 10 mg OD, I got my anti body results - thyroid receptor antibody 6.34u/L (0-0.4).

Full results list:

1.7.22 - FT4 14.7pmol/L TSH 1.44miu/L

18.12.23 - FT4 58.3pmol/L TSH <0.01miu/L FT3 27pmol/L

8.1.24 - FT4 18.8pmol/L TSH <0.01miu/L FT3 7pmol/L thyroid receptor antibody 6.34u/L (0-0.4)

Since 8th I have been feeling very tired so asked my GP for another test - concerned with fast drop as only started Carbimazole late Dec 23.

Wondering if the antibody is high?

Hey there :

Your dose of the AT drug Carbimazole has been reduced because your T3 and T4 readings have reduced and now your T4 is in range and your T3 though just over range - will drop into range within a week or two.

The antibody reading is over the range - and this is simply the medical evidence and proof of diagnosis and confirmation that an Anti Thyroid drug - Carbimazole the most appropriate treatment option.

There is no way of controlling these antibodies and they will run their course since we are looking at an immune system malfunction for which there is no cure but one would hope given enough time your body will calm down and your thyroid reset itself back to normal function without the need for any medications.

With Graves you can experience either blocking or stimulating antibodies at any given time and therefore symptoms of both hyper and hypothyroidism and for some people these 2 extremes of symptoms cancel each other out with you left feeling relatively normal.

These sets of extremes fight for control of your thyroid and it can be bit like being on a roller coaster ride without any of the fun and the AT drug is prescribed to try and offset these extremes of symptoms.

As your results are almost back in the ranges the AT drug will likely be titrated down again as you don't want your T3 and T4 falling too far through the ranges as then you are liable to experience the equally disabling symptoms of hypothyroidism.

Thyroid UK - the charity who supports this forum has a list of both over active and under active thyroid symptoms - maybe take a read so you can identify where you now feel you are in this phase of Graves - thyroiduk.org

Holistic and other treatment options may help during this waiting period and there are several suggestions and options within Elaine Moore's website elaine-moore.com

You will be very tired - and you need to listen to your body and rest as your body dictates - hopefully you will start to feel more ' like you ' soon -

Have your symptoms reduced and do you now feel a bit more comfortable in yourself ?

Are your eyes feeling any different - dry, gritty, painful, watering too much - please ensure all treatment options are Preservative Free - even those prescribed by the NHS.

Hi,

Thank you for all your support and helpful replies. I am feeling a bit worse, so have asked for a further Thyroid test to check my levels since the 8th Jan reduction. I have also been to a Gyne today regarding menopause symptoms. They have recommended supplements - magnesium glycinate 300 - 400 mg (3/4 capsules) a day, Zinc 40 mg after dinner, and B6 P5P 50 mg in the morning (this on top of HRT). I have just been checking to see if these may have negative effect on Carbimazole - but can only find I need to watch out for any of them including iodine. Any advice/tips. Thank you.

I would suggest you check this out with your doctor and endocrinologist.

You are ill and although your T3 and T4 are almost back in the range you are not cured and it does take time for your body to reset itself after this immune system malfunction.

I was totally exhausted couldn't even lift a teaspoon, had no power and totally exhausted.

Your body has been in a heightened state - and it does take time to recover - we are not machines - though your results are looking good - your brain and body need time and you need to rest - be kind to yourself - and if you have the energy to do anything - make it something you enjoy - and try and relax mentally as well as physically.
