There are a lot of different suppliers of paracetamol - some brands may regularly change their supplier too, so I think you'd be best to check the ingredients each time you buy. I haven't come across any that I can't have yet as they are mostly made with maize starch, but i do always check on the leaflet inside the packet.

I don't really take asprin, but I would do the same.

Are you coming from outside the uk? Paracetamol & Asprin are classed as general sales meds here, so you don't have to buy them over the counter unless you want more than 16 tablets (you can buy them in supermarkets and newsagents)

I cannot take asprin or paracetamol they contain starch even one will cause bleeding , I took one as a protection before I traveled and it caused internal bleeding and a sore tummy

Thank you for your answer. It is for my 18 year old son who has just been diagnosed as coeliac and we are now trying to answer lots of questions. We are living in britain, yorkshire.

The gluten free over the supermarket aspirin question / answer would still be very useful.

I am also desperately trying to find alternatives for his previous normal diet. Last night was his first gluten free tea and today he has set off to work with gluten free sandwiches.

If you, or anybody has advice regarding things such as gluten free potato crisps, oven chips, chocolate and other 18 year old usuals, I would be very grateful..thanks again

Oh we're in Yorkshire too - whereabouts do you live? Might be able to recommend some places to eat out...

Crisp-wise, avoid Walkers. Seabrooks ready salted are ok, not sure about all flavours (I'm boring and prefer the plain ones!) - you'd have to check the packet. Some flavours of Kettle chips are ok too, as are many supermarket own brands.

Cadbury's are pretty good at labelling, but do check because you'd be suprised which ones he can't have (last time I checked Dairy Milk had a gluten warning on it!) Chunchie bars are fine and I live on them!

DS do some gluten free frozen pizzas that are supposed to be nice - I think you can get them in Tesco, Asda or Waitrose.

Beware sausages - they are usually glutenful. Black farmer is a good gf brand.

If he has not already done so, then I advise registering with coeliac uk - they will send him a handbook of safe products, which makes shopping much easier. They will also send him info about prescription gf products and how to send off for free samples. I recommend doing this.

Good luck - it can all be quite daunting at first!

Creativeid1. Please have a look at our Pinterest boards. We have several that show the many products that are fine for Coeliacs to eat including 32 glutenfree sausages, chocolate and christmas goodies! There are also links to gluten free listings from the main supermarkets so you can see which of their products are gluten free. Following diagnosis we'd recommend sticking with fresh foods, and cooking from scratch, giving the processed foods a wide berth while the gut goes through the healing process. pinterest.com/gfguerrillas/

I find most of the Marks and Spencer sausages are gluen free; they also do "breaded" gf chicken and fish.

I wish your son a steady gut-healing now he has begun to eat

Gluten Free.

Yes cooking from scratch is a good idea to ensure good healing.

Also after a while eating GF a slip-up can be very painful.....

spoilt the start of my hols; eating a french sausisson it was the MALTDOEXTRIN

Anyway good to buy and snack on is Aldi White Chocolate, huge chunky

bar and labelled GLUTEN FREE.

Also from the ASDA 'free from' section Tortilla Chips; all tortilla chips should be made from

maize flour which is GF, but the added flavours may not be GF.

since buying these no probs. The salsa dip might be tricky so make

your own or check the label

All the best Malago

thanks malago, and if you or anybody else can recommend any supermarket GF baked beans .. are branston and heinz beans safe?

Hi again re GF baked beans. I'm really fussy about baked beans nothing to do with GF we buy Waitrose Organic Baked Beans and they're GF.

I don't know about the Branston flavour you mentioned, but Branston Pickle ought to be GF so why not stir in a couple of spoonsful as the beans heat up.

Sons of that age can be so hungry ( well my 2 were now mid thirties)

Does your son like pasta, 'cos GF pasta is so good; difficult to tell the difference.

Heinz beans are safe

Good information thanks to all - going back to my original question for GF supermarket aspirin and general cold/ flu products, also toothpaste please?

toothpaste is fine. I always use paracetemol capsules but all UK medicines are meant to be ok for us. It's herbal remedies that we are told to be careful with
