Has anyone tried the lactofree milk o... - Gluten Free Guerr...
Has anyone tried the lactofree milk or cream etc.
Yes, & it was OK when I needed it but was happy to return to normal milk & cream when my villii had regrown.
Yes it tastes very good - you'll hardly notice the difference. They even do lactofree cheese as well lactofree.co.uk/
Been trying to get the cheese but they don't seem to do it in this area, i really miss cheese lol
I get it in Asda (cheapest) although tesco and sainsburys also do it. why not email lacto free and ask them where they stock in your area. I use Alpro cream it is about the same consistency as lacto free cream and costs less. Agree with lois parker about little taste but tend to use with other tasty things like jam in sandwiches and for cooking meals so that compensates. I tried lactase but it didn't work for me I still got the intolerance. I find tofutti cream cheese (soya) is good as well as lactofree usually available in H&B.
useful products but the cheese has little taste. Artisan chedder from the West Country Farmhouse Cheesemakers (handmadechedder.com) matured for 24mths have virtually no lactose in and taste brilliant. I have also bought lactase and used it in jersey milk and cream to make my own icecreams etc - depends what type of product you want, but the combination of these gives a lot of options. Just add the drops to the milk/cream and leave for 24hrs and the lactase converts the lactose for you so you get a sweeter lactose free product.
I now only use the cream cheese occassionally - good for blobbing on pizza for a creamy hit without mozzarella (started learning to make lf mozzarella but got distracted by moving house).
thanks for this.
thanks for the alternative about to go on fodmap for two months so won't get it yet it sounds delicious
forgot to mention - they also do single portion longlife milk packs - very useful if you take milk in your drinks as they fit easily in a handbag.
I've tried the lactofree milk and it seems somewhat 'sweeter' than normal milk, but then I always used semi-skimmed so maybe that's why! I have used the lactofree cheese - it vaguely reminds me of Swiss cheese in texture, just very mild. It's not very 'exciting' but it's ok!
I find that lactofree milk continues to suit me better than normal, but I can eat ordinary 'live' plain full fat yogurts and cream, along with butter and a little 'aged' cheese.
I use many lactose free products including yoghurt, milk, half and half, and whipping cream. I eat aged cheeses which are virtually lactose free anyway. I even use lactose free milk products to make to make my own puddings, ice cream, frozen desserts and in baking. I don't notice any difference, but then I went 6 years without any milk products, so my taste buds probably wouldn't know the difference.
yes I use Lactofree milk all the time and love it.....I bake puddings with it too and if i really want to be naughty I use lactofree cream on top...yum! :o) Not keen on the cheese...not very tasty.
I have been using lactofree whole milk. i found that i could taste my tea more. i never have sugar with it normally.
lactose free milk will be sweeter as the lactose is converted into other sugars for you by the lactase treatment
Yes use the lactose free milk, cheese and yogurts....great being lactose intolerant!! Never tried the cream though. Also use rice milk as an alternative in my cerals in the morning....very nice!!
Rice dream? Thought was a no no
I love Arla soft cheese.. Like philladefia but better I think.. Just a Pitty you spread it on a mc vities digestive!!
I can't even tolerate GF bread...
Ian I am going to Allergy and Free From show at Olympia this Saturday. I will check with Doves that their Gluten Free Bread Flour is milk free if it is you could make bread using that either in a bread machine or in the oven - just add soya or other alternative milk instead. it makes up fairly OK wouldn't describe it as super but at least you could have a reasonably priced alternative. Lasts about three days so you should make it up in the small size The only allergy infomation on the side of the pack is no nuts and the ingredients are flour blend (Rice Tapioca Potato, Sarrasin and Carob) Sugar beet Fibre, Xanthan Gum For the Brown Bread Sorry I haven't got the white one but you could look that up on Dove Farm website. They are generally available in nearly all the major supermarkets or by mail order direct from Doves. The downside is the other ingredients you need to find like oil, vinegar, milk yeast eggs etc. will let you know Saturday night Hope it works.
yes, I didn't realise it actualy has a little milk in it and went through me like a dose of salts. But everyone has different metabolisms.
