Alcohol..

I've recently gone gf and felt completely myself again after also cutting out dairy. But recently the old symptoms crept back again...and it's definitely not food as I've been eating everything fresh. Other than that have had a cocktail - and had a disproportionately bad reaction the next day, given it was only one drink. Does anyone else have problems with booze or sugary drinks?

The first question you have to ask yourself is are you a coeliac. If you are your body can tolerate all alcohol apart from non-g/f beer. I have been caught out recently with sainsbury's diet cola - it had barley in it!. So if you are a coeliac join the coeliac society - if you are not I would look at your diet as a whole. As a coeliac on a g/f diet I thoroughly enjoy butter, cream, cheese & all he other delicious dairy products but only after my villii had grown back.

I have a sneaking feeling it may have been the coke in the drink then..

Hi Becky139 Cola drinks can be a problem. Stick to white wine that's my answer. Hic

Becky, if you are not coeliac then it could be reactive hypoglycemia, which would have improved when you went GF because you would have cut carbs. Alcohol on it's own, ie, without a high protein, high fat meal beforehand, will send me spinning/ tired/ confused and down for a couple of days. And I only mean 1 drink, it's not a hangover!

Hey everyone,

I'm coeliac and i have had to cut out all alcohol because I ended up being sick and a dodge tummy for days after. It hasn't made a difference if I have been drinking wine, rum & coke, vodka & orange. Everything has affected me. I can only assume that my body was really damaged and just can't process the toxins & chemicals.

I also steer clear of fizzy drinks and most things with sulphites in at the moment.

Hiya, I'm exactly the same, I was having a couple of glasses of wine, then spending 12 - 14 hours the next day being sick and having migraines so bad that even moving my eyes hurt. I don't think I realised until I stopped how much brain fog I was getting from even a small amount as well.

As is has been said, some brands of cola has barley, It may have just been that- just check which cola is being used, Ive never came across barley in Coke or Pepsi, mosty just in supermarket brands that ive found the problem.

Sometimes. Cannot drink Tesco diet coke as it has gluten in. Can drink Bulmers No17 but only a couple.

I have coeliac disease so I stick to CocaCola original, not diet or zero and same with Pepsi. I also got caught out recently with vodka that contained wheat so I stick to brands I know. This does unfortunately make cocktails a problem as I’m never sure what is in it.

Repeating what others have said, wine a good option and I also enjoy gf beer now or original cider (as it is summer).
