How many of you complain when you get 'glutened' eating/ drinking out and about?

What's the response? If you don't complain - why is that? If you do - what method works best for you e.g. DM on twitter, emailing customer services, ringing, visiting and face to face mtg with Mgr?

I usually know by the first bite if I've been glutened, quite often I do complain to management. And if it's a case of the waiter who brought croutons on my salad, I politely request that they remake the entire salad and why they do so. So I watch the time, and if it comes right back out in 3 minutes or so, I know all they did was remove the croutons and tell them to take it back and never mind on my meal, I will eat elsewhere.

I am rather stubborn like that. :)

I would never dream of complaining about food in a restaurant if I ever wanted to eat there again. Imagine what bodily fluids an annoyed chef or waiter could deposit on your food before it reached your table......another phlegm supreme madam, it is gluten free!

How interesting 2 opposite slants...c'mon the rest of you. We know you're not hermits. What about when you eat out - what's your approach? Suffer in silence? Suck it and see? Complain? Educate and win over another waiter to understanding what gluten is?

I always complain. Why should I pay hard cash to get ill? I do complain nicely and always point out how they can improve if they ever slip up - which thankfully is rare. I don't see why so many Coeliac forums contain moaning minnies that never speak up. Are we all passive aggressives?! I know it's embarrassing to complain and we fear they will spit in our food (yet surely we often complain after) when we can avoid ever going back? I like to praise good places and always do a quick review on foodie forums eg top table, trusted places as these help me when I search for GF. I also love CoeliacMapUk as they have an android phone app for Coeliac recommended places. I think most places are relatively keen to cater for Coeliacs they just often don't know how to. So when I find one that does I make sure I visit them again and again so they see that good work = loyalty from Coeliacs and their friends.
